Cool If one had the opportunity

So here's the question,

If you had the opportunity to be the head of a little race team with limited funds, ($15000 annually) . What would ya'll recommend for the first year of spending on an 01 auto 4x4.

It might happen!!??

are you supposed to buy the truck out of that 15k? if so, you aint going to get much. Not much at all. but if you already have the truck i would do something like

p-pump
BIG ole twins
huge injectors
and depending on the race or what ever were doing, nos
go through the head, p&p, decked compleatly rebuilt, o rings, studs
cam
pistons
and that will just about take care of your 15k

I like Brian's idea better... Why didn't I think of a P-Pump?

Oh yeah, real trucks come with them

if your going to be drag racing i would say sell the 24v and buy a 12v, it will give you more money to start out with and you could build a faster/higher hp truck for probably less money

The thing is..... They are considering an 01 24 valve, for the team and the 15k would be extra. So what ever you've got, bring it on!!

Forget BIG twins. They spool too slow unless you got a really loose converter and want to launch at tranny-breaking boost levels. Besides, EGT control isn't that important for a 1/4 mile. What you want is a largish single a a big hit of nitrous.

Unless you get a mega-built driveline that can handle 20+psi launches (I'm not aware of any that can for long), then turbo spool is a factor and, imo, more important than peak EGT control.

The best money you can spend on making the truck fast is first making it light. Gut about 1500lb and you'll gain a LOT.

That said, here's my prescription:
1) Smarty- ~$650
2) Blue Chip Redline box ~$1100
3) HTT Pro Street 66- $1870
4) Nitrous Express Progressive Nitrous system-- $1200
5) Billet DTT, flexplate, etc-- ~$6000
6) Mach 7s (for the nitrous)- ~$1200
7) F1 Helix 3 cam and springs- ~$1700

With the above system dialed in, you should have a solid 11 second truck that will pull strong to 4K rpm.

Be sure you get the 89% or looser DTT converter. You don't want to bog on the line.

ok heres what i would do fire ring the head, head studs , port and polish the head, 60lb vavle springs , titanium keepers for the valve springs,a VA box stacked with a Redline box , a silver bullet turbo , a H3 cam , with a set of releieved pistons so you dont smake a piston , for injectors i would go with a set of schied 7x18's also a dave goerand full billett trans . the reason i say go with dave is the warrenty on the converter cant beat a lifetime no questions asked . plus if you dont like the way it spools send it back and he will work with you till it spools the charger the way you want it to . also theres stuff like driveline loops , u joint shields and ladder bars. that should get you pretty far .

now if you do go with a p-pump i would look at the schied p-pump install kit its got most of the stuff you need in it . minus a pump wich you can pick up off here or ebay.

just some ideas

Good plan, other than the fly cut pistons...the H3 doesn't need them, and they disrupt airflow, from what I've heard. Granted, at 5K+RPM, it won't matter, but why pay for them if you don't need them for this application!

I like Hohn's idea's with the "small" charger and nitrous...I've been around a larger charger (71mm class) using A LOT of nitrous to leave the line hard (1.63 60') and the intermediate shaft didn't last long. I kinda attribute it to all that power being released FAST.....but I'm no expert!

Fast spoolup is your friend, for you're tranny's and your EGT's sake!

I would go this route....

PDW Drugpusher turbo
ATS manifold
AFE filter
NX progressive system
Mach 8's
Tranny
Port, Stud and o-ring the head
TST Competition
Edge EZ
F1 cam and springs
Z rated tires
Roll cage

Good for 850+ RWHP and one fast truck......

Hey the tires and cage are so you can live to race again.... Heck with this setup you will need the cage just for the track to allow a second pass!

As for the drugpusher it is designed to be run as a single on nitrous. Fast spoolup and a free flowing exhaust allow for big HP and low backpressure. This turbo will be easy to build boost at the line and really come on hard allowing for the nitrous to be introduced rapidly.

Cool! Good thing I've already got my twins planned, or I might be interested in that thing

Maybe one of these days I'll do a big single!
