If you take the hose off the turbo, you will see a real thin black snap ring. It is a ***** to get out (for me at least). Pry that out w/ a couple small screwdrivers and then remove the circular silver holloe middle shaped thing. That is the silencer ring!

Yup. You'll love it.

my truck used to have a K&N filter in the stock air box, with the bottom of the boxed drilled out for more flow... with the ring removed the turbo really whistled... especially over 21psi (30psi was pretty freakin' loud!!!)

I have since gone to a BHAF and the turbo is no where near as loud.

I also noticed right away that I lost ~2psi on the boost gauge.

Hey so if I got a BHAF will cutting that hole in the cowl make it louder? What makes that simple hole make the turbo louder?

I think because it will be a direct outlet to the outside from the turbo.

it is only louder IN the truck when you do that. you are cutting down on the barrier between you and the turbo.

micah did you notice any EGT difference, i didnt and on dieselram.com everyone talks about how much better a BHAF is over a K&N...other than the oil in the filter i dont see any difference

there appears to be a negligible difference in favor of the K&N... but I'm not a lead foot driver either. fuel is just too daggon much $.

The "better" they speak of is the quality of filtration, but apparently at a slight cost to flow. The K&N just lets too much by. I feel better about having the BHAF, after seeing some of the studies done vs the K&N.
