Hyperpac
Hyperpac
Anybody tried or heard anything about the Hypertech Hyperpac. It sounds like a lot of bells and whistles but does have some nice features, and Auto Anything has it on sale for 500 bucks. But from what I understand it doesn`t give you an egt reading straight out of the box. Thinking maybe just get a Smarty and gauges and be done.
I bought the HyperPac at 499.00 from Jeggs in March08. Its made for towing not racing. It only puts out 50hp and about 132ftlbs or torque. I wish they would rate the stuff at the flywheel and not at the rear wheels so its apples to apples. So that 50hp at the rear wheels could be quit a bit more at the flywheel.
I tow a 35ft Carriage Fifth Wheel from time to time. My normal mileage with the stock engine is about 10-10.5. Thats with 3:54 gears. I tow with the HyperPac on Level 2. Level 3 I'm told will chase the EGT's up above 1300.
Last time out I averaged about 11.7-12.3mpg. I had one tank at 9 headed into a strong wind. That would have been 7 with the stock engine. The one big thing I notice is the engine runs quieter when towing. The other thing is
when towing into the wind there is no hesitation with the HyperPac like it was
stock. Sometimes I would have to drop back into 5th.
I plan to install the EGT probe soon and tie it into the HyperPac.
The one big down thing for the hyperpac is the display. You can't hardly see it in the day time. Mine is mounted in truck and plugged in all the time. The various displays are nice. Never used the Drag Strip function or the Dyno function. Thought the next Time I go out with the fiver I would run Dyno Function under load while accellerating onto 95, then later play it back.
I looking a way to mount it in another place so the sunlight is not a problem.
I'd give it about a 7 out of 10 for a rating. There is some other stuff that could be improved as well. Next Version.
If you get one, it takes about 15 minutes to set it up the first time. Locate the fuses for the trucks computer as you will have to pull them out and replace them during set up.
