Hy max boost?

I just ordered a Smarty, All the programs in the Smarty, but the stock one have higher boost settings. My question is will I still need to do the turnbuckle? A higher boost setting will do no good if the wastegate cant hold it.

Yes put a turnbuckle on it and get about 28 lbs boost.
I ran mine about 2 years like that untill I got the Dodgezilla.

I ran mine HY upto 38psi with no issues. The turbo is now toast as I got hot once or zillion times. Its a nice dark bronze color, looked kinda like I got it power coated. I ran the turbo that way for over 100000miles. Running my twins and those old (100rwhp) injectors, I could hardly pull much more than 40psi of boost. No smoke at wot, just during intial spool-up. I think that my egt's hardly even hit 1200 deg's.

Cool. I hoping I'll get to 28-30 psi. Tranny will more than likely start objecting to that. So a turnbuckle will fix me up. Just waiting for the Smarty now.

I think that you should easily reach those numbers. You might want to go around and tighten up your intercooler clamps and check to see if you have an holes in your hoses or rock damage to the intercooler. Mine takes a beating, thankfully I have a air condensor that assorbs the rocks. I have to put in a screen behind the grill. You might want to use some de-greaser and clean-up the intercooler and the radator. Mine was plugged up pretty good last fall. No wonder it ran hot... Little things like that makes a difference when you start to pull a heavy object behind you.

Well I just turnbuckled it today. It hits just under 32. The engine sounds different at those pressures.. Used the turnbuckle, a U-bolt, the spring and a snap link(??) It was in the chain section. So maybe $10 total. I was going for 30, but I'll keep the extra 2 psi....30-32 is still within the efficiency range right? My EGTS drop from about 1200 to around 900, So still testing the EGTs for now......

30-32 is perfect for the HY. It will live a long and healthy life at those pressures. I miss my HY. The sound of it at 35psi is just wicked.

It's better than horizontal refreshment. I love every second of it. It spools almost as fast as my HY did and cools great. With a comp on 5x5 (wire tapped), 275 injectors, I went from pegging a 1500* pyro with my HY and only hitting 110mph to 1250* max EGT's at a max speed of a 117mph. Even now with my comp on 2x2 and 100+hp injectors I'm only hitting 1250-1300*. I love this thing. My only gripe is that before the tag with the hole opened on the scotty this sucker was very loud. The TAG helped that out though.

Hmmm I am really considering getting it, I like the HY but eventually I'm gonna be needing some more SNORT!!! I'm assuming that thing would be pretty decent for towing? I don't tow a whole lot, but when I do to it's up in the moutains so I need something to keep them pesky EGT's cool. Sounds like the KSB-1 does that pretty good!

It would work great for towing in the mountains. It doesn't surge either, at least not on my rig. But then again, I don't haul anything but tail.

You want to hear a sweet sounding turbo, listen to the 3B at about 20psi of boost. Sounds like a jet throttling up for take-up. At 60psi, its growling kinda of sound. Its so cool. The HY-35 turbo just can't push in enough air and your truck just lays down on WOT, with your box on 5X5 setting. Spool-up its great. Another good small turbo is the super B. I'm thinking of swapping out my HX-40 for the super B for a faster spool-up. The air flow is roughly the same if I remember correctly for both the HX-40 and the super B. My rear bumper was way more black with the HY and a set of 90rwhp injectors then my current combo.

So which KSB-1 is it? On piers it lists a coulpe different types. After the tranny Its KSB-1 (not sure which flavor) and M4's. Later on, the KSB I want will be the top turbo on a set of twins. It kinda surprised me when it hit 32psi. I didnt want to lift but the speed limit said it was a good idea to.....

Man I guess I finally got the full on bug now......
