HX's breath better than HY's, but they spool slower. They also stuck HX's w/ a manual wastegate on the 03 and 04 model year CR's. 04.5-07 they went to an electronic wastegate.

The HX will give you some improvement over the HY; if you can get it free, I say go for it. It will cool things down a bit on the top end, you will just have a bit more smoke on the low end is all.

I would have changed in a heartbeat when I was stuck with an HY-35. The only reason Dodge went from HX to HY on the automatics was for emissions... not performance. The 98.5 - 2000's came with HX-35.

I'd avoid the 3rd Gens.... JMO. Someone here did one (try a search). Maybe Bigblue24?? I believe there was quite a bit of fabrication needed.

Even if your not having EGT problems....do it. Better all around driving, lower egt's and more boost.
The slight added lag will be second nature to you in no time!!
Just find a good one. Many have been over reved and beat to death.

I just did this swap on my 02 (HY to HX). It was a HUGE improvement, BUT, when I did the swap I also added a BD 3-piece manifold and 4" exhaust at the same time and I didn't notice much change in spool up between the HY and HX, if anything, the HX spools quicker due to the mods that I added.
If you can get the HX for free I wouldn't hesitate the least to do the swap.
