I ran one on my 97 forever... current owner is still driving with it... it was/is a great turbo for the $250 I had in it, but I can't begin to express how much nicer my sps62 is vs. the 40

Now that would be a cool truck to have.

Ok it sounds like this would be a good economical option for a turbo to make some decent power with my truck, what size injecters do you think I should pair this turbo with? How hard would it be to make a decent hybrid with my stock turbo? Can this be done by the DIYser??Oh and if anyone has one there looking to move I might be interested........

I have the 40 and has worked great for me. You will have to relearn how to drive the truck because even though it still lights it is not the same as the 35. I do have plenty of fuel running to it but it is not nearly big enough that you would need alot of fuel. I say with the plate you have enough fuel to benefit from it, just get some dv's or injectors to really have fun with it. Also you don't mention whether you have an auto or stick, my experiences are coming from a 5spd point of view.

Sorry it's an auto which is going to get some sort of upgrade I have an appointment Tuesday to see the tranny man. I'm wondering if it will be ok with an auto? Anyone with experience?? I'm also thinking about going to a 100 plate and some bigger sticks, the search continues for somthing with the correct spray pattern...

For the price you can't go wrong with the 370's but if you have the money for ddp4's or some HR370's go for it. If you think the 370's aren't up to par maybe look into New Era's 435's. I can't speak from experience, but the 40 should still run good on your auto as long as you don't expect it to light like the 35. I will say though, if you don't find a 40 for less than 800 or so I would just go and get a B2 62/12 or larger because the 40 is only worthwile if you get a great deal on it, IMO.

So anything under $800.00 or so is a pretty good deal on a 40?

I would expect to pay a less than $800 ...for a decent HX-40. They are brand new...refitted by Piers...for $1100.
They are older Holset technology and metalurgy.... and not the best choice for durability. There are better options...JMO.

I'm in the market for somthing better than the Hx35 but cost comes into play with my truck. Unfortunetly it's hard to make power with your tow vehical and have enough cash left over for a drag car...

Oh no doubt I would like to have a HTT or II turbo but I picked my HX40 up for $300, can't beat that. And to make things better, it sure will be nice on top of an S400 one of these days.

in my opinion, no... you could hold out and pick up a used sps for $1200 or so... I'd say under $500 is a decent deal for a 40
