Question How much aluminum for heat shield?

Planning on gettting a BHAF and want to build the heatshield. How much 1/8" aluminum stock should I get to build it?

Thanks,
~Rob

Well, I printed out the template from the Tech Facts section here and pieced it together and it looks like a 16" x 24" piece of stock should work.

BHAF Template

This is a word document that you have to download. It is 8 pages that you print out and tape together to make the template (Thanks DPG).

(There is a button at the top of the DTR page that says "Tech Facts", if you click it and follow the links it gets you to the above link.)

This looks like it will cover up too much of the filter area. From the picture, it looks like half of the filter is blocked off.

As for the template posted on the site here, which material would offer the best shielding? Aluminum, steel, stainless steel?

Mine is aluminum, but someone on another site said aluminum isn't the best choice.
Something about it holding the heat in too much.

I haven't noticed any ill effects myself.

Steel would probably rust, stainless would look nice under there.

I could be wrong but I think stainless would reflect the heat while aluminum would be more likley to absorb the heat
