How to fix rubbing on control arms with 315s...

Truck is a 2002 2500 4x4. I've got 315/75/16s on my stock rims with a 2" leveling kit. Also have bushwacker flares. Everything fits and looks great except the tires rub the control arms at full lock. It's not a big issue and I've been dealing with it for years but I'm about to order some new rims and I thought that I would find out if there are any aftermarket rims out there that would fix this problem. I'd like to go with some 17x8s or 17x9s and stick with 35" tires.

Right now I'm looking at the Ultra 175s, Cepek DC-1s, or Moto Metal 955s.

Ultra's are offered in a 17x8 with 5.25" backspace and +19 offset. The Cepek's are a 17x9 with 4.5" backspace and -12" offset. The Moto Metals are 17x9, 4.53" backspace, and -12" offset. Would any of these wheels fix the rubbing on the control arm problem and if not any ideas on what will? Thanks

i had the exact same problem. the BS on factory wheels is 6.25". anything with 5.25" of BS or less would probably work great as long as you didnt go up on the tire size. 17x8 with a 35 would probably work. 17x9 (depending on the BS) may rub the fenders.

Not highjacking, but, do the 3rd gen. control arms fit right in, or do they change something? Rockjeep44, you have the 2" spacers in, do the tires rub both sides? Do you have the track bar adjusted via: adjustable track bar, relocate bracket? I put the spacers in, and it pulled the axle over just enough that my right side tire would rub at full lock turn to the right. The left does not rub at all. my track bar is stock yet. ( will change next week) Only a problem with 35" or bigger tires. You could solve the issue with different back spaced wheels, but if your axle is off center, that still should be fixed.

I just tack welded a piece of 1/8 inch plate on the spindle stops on the axle. Has worked great for two years and havent noticed any loss in steering radius. Since its only tacked it can be remover eiasily if i ever down size tires

It rubs when I turn to both sides. I haven't messed with the trac-bar but everything seems to be lined up just fine. I'm already looking for a set of 3rd gen lowers, I've heard they are a direct bolt in. However, can anyone confirm that going from the stock rims (16x8s, 6.25" BS) to some 17x8s anywhere between 4.25 and 5.25" BS will fix the issue by itself?

Yea but that was a step down in tire size so I wouldn't expect it to hit regardless.

A set of these will work for you if you just need a *little* clearance... and for under $20 to your door (eBay, etc.) it's hard to beat the price or ease of install.

I'd try that first before you drop the coin on new wheels, control arms, etc.

I'm running Sky Jacker D25 coils, American Eagle 102's (16x8) with BFG 315's along with DT Pro Fab 4 link setup which work great. Mine use to rub the link arms before I got the Amer. Eagle 102's.

The heavy duty 4 link kit by DT Pro Fab is awesome and they are made for trucks upto 2-3 inch lift. They come stock length or 1/2 in. forward which is what I have. My drivers side tire rubs the front bottom fender a tiny bit but ok with me....

My prior stock 4 links had a crack developing on my bottom links. The stock links are very weak and fragile but the DT Pro Fab units are extremely strong. When I was searching for links to replace my stock cracked ones DT Pro Fab was the only company that sold links without requiring me to purchaase a lift kit. I'm happy with mine. Their website link is listed below:

Hope this helps !

H2 wheels, with stock 315's will clear the control arms???
Thats news to me, my buddy is running H2's and even when the stock tires went bald they rubbed. So NO H2's DO NOT have the correct back spacing. Got to run spacers to clear the control arms with H2's.
