Go with a 3b and a 22 housing if you can find it. With the larger S400 you are stuck with the 1.32 exhaust.(at least that's all I've found). The K31 is great, but is a bit expensive($850) and a bit small(75lbs/min). It is super for daily driving though. Probably great with an auto tranny.

Why does the bigger turbo have to be so big? Why can't a guy get away with a stock HX35 with a 12cm housing on the manifold and something in the medium range like a SPS 62/14 on the big side?

Heck, why can't a guy go with an HY 35/and HX35/14 on top for the benifets of twins but not have to flow tons of fuel to make the twins work right?

RonA, thats the setup I have but with a 38mm external wastegate. If I was doing it again I would have modded the stock gate but when I started this set no one thought a stock modded gate would support a twin setup. You can't beat it for spoolup and I finally got enough fuel to get it over 1200 and up to 60 lbs. of boost. It seems to run really hard but I've never been in a high horsepower diesel.
The next set I build will have a hy35 on top with either the k31 I have or the 3b with a 22 housing. You spend 90 percent or more of your time driving in the bottom where a small set really shines.

IMO a modded stock WG will work on a lower HP truck. There is one person on here that did some serious WG mods like makeing a new flapper and arm that would and if I remeber right does support some good HP. IMO if you want to go for some big HP with a smaller top turbo an external WG is the only way to go.

The flange might be different on the hy and hx and Rip just makes flanges for the hx 35 and 40. You can make any turbo work if you can fab it.

The HY has a 9cm housing on it and barely moves enough air to keep up with an ez/275 combo. While it might keep it cool, it chokes it BIG time on the top end. That's one of the biggest things I noticed when I swapped to the KSB-1 is the insanely stupid top end charge I gained.
