Holy Moly!

well for them that plan on keeping there trucks a while I thought I would show you what happens to the old mighty Cummins . lock tight them gear case bolts or it can cost you big $$$$



this is the third time I have seen this now.sounded like a super charger as it was getting eat up by the cam gear.

one of the guys from my Church, 24V, it did the exact same thing Eric's truck did but he got lucky it didn't break the case

He drove over to my friends to ask who works on his trucks and I heard it, and told him don't even think about re starting it we pushed it in the drive and bingo .I had a feeling that's what it was .its a real sickening sound. just started doing it

normally its the one right next to the kdp... but other bolts from the timing cover come loose too.

yes it is, but not sure if thats the case on one, but have seen this bolt fall out a coulpe times

yes it was, but this one had the updated case ,(no kdp to worry about)
and one other was loose too .I pulled everyone I could and used brake cleaner to clean out the holes then blue lock tight.

Going into mine today as I have to replace v.p thought this would be as good a time as any..... I've had some strange noises cumm'in from top /front of engine..... I think this is going to be what I'll find. It doesn't do it all the time And no major oil leaks yet/ cracked case. Nate

The killer dowel pin and theese bolts are located under the black timming cover on the front of the engine. The dowel pin actually holds the whole timing case in position but the dowel can come loose and get into the gears and usually takes out the timming cover, this is why its called the killer dowel pin. The bolts are the ones that hold the timming case to the block. They can destroy the case too.
