holley blue bypass

hi guys, i installed my holley blue last night worked fine other than one problem. i cut the power to the holley to see if the stock pump would pull through it and it dont. my fuel pressure drops to 0. my stock lift pump idles at 15 and 3-5 at wot so i think my pump is ok. i would like to build a bypass around the holley blue just incase it dies i can still run the truck to where i can work on it. ive talked to numerous people today about a bypass line some say no check vaulve is needed in the bypass to keep the holley from pushing fuel back into the tank. some say you need a check vaulve in the bypass line. what do you all think about these ideas.

thanks all mooseman,

If you get a line on a good check valve please post it. I have a prototype that I made but I know there must be a cheaper one out there. My design is pretty cool but not cheap to make. It is however pretty much bomb proof.

Well, if the stock lift pump won't suck through the holley, the holley should also make a good check valve, right?

Maybe take it off and try blowing through it backwards?

If nothing more, you could carry some vise grips in your truck to pinch the line incase you had to.

I needed a check valve for my Charger, dual fuel systems and I was concerned about the same thing, there are only two that I could find, the one I bought is from swagelok, 316 stainless with a viton O-ring. I don't remember who made the other one.

raften, i found a check vaulve at a local hydraulic store (30.00). it is designed specifically for diesel fuel systems. it should work perfect. pm me if you need to be hooked up with one.

the blue is in, with a check vaulve and regulator inline. now if the blue dies the lp does not have to try to suck through it (it would not before). with comp on 5x5 fp is 20 at idle 12 wot. with blue off fp is 14 at idle and 3 wot still useing the stock fuel line size. .

thanks, mooseman

Throw the Max flow fuel kit on there and see what your pressures will be then.

nice.

so you just hooked into the factory line at your tee? or did you run a whole new line to the tank?

where did you pick up all your fittings?

i cut the factory line where you see the tee and then again about 10 inches downstream of the regulator. every thing inbetween is all new. i got all of the fittings at a plumbing supply house for about $8.00. and yes thats teflon. it is not used to seal just to help seat threads. to seal the threads i used a chemical resistant compound. if its all applied right you have no problems with teflon clogging things. i am a commerical plumber by day so i felt pretty comfortable with what i was doing.
thanks, mooseman

i dont think you need the reg. but i did not know what my pressures would be and i did not want much over 20 at idle. i have a stiffer spring made by morroso that fits the holley blue to boost pressure if needed. so the reg is inline so when i put the spring in to maintain a higher wot pressure i can still run 20 psi at idle. hope all that makes sence to you.
