holley blue
I'm going to install a holley blue fuel pump and an extra fuel filter. Is it okay to pull the fuel through the new filter, or should I push it through the filter? And do I unhook the factory lift pump? And if I should use both can I connect the new pump to the same power as the lift pump? Thanks in advance.
the pump you are using is a vane pump they dont like trash run thru them or does any fuel pump, I would use a pre filter on any pump at least 100 Mic give you good flow thru the filter. I would look into another fuel sys then the holley blue pump. (Airdog) I would say this pump if you use it would replace the factory pump and you could wire it up on the factory wire, you should beable to use your factory filter after the pump.

Thanks stang and cdennyb. I'm still wondering about the extra filter I want to put by the pump. I want to run bio diesel that we are making. I want the extra filter just to be safe. My Dad is running the fuel in is 98 12 valve and he just added a extra filter only. His truck runs great on the bio.
The holley blue isnt going to work very long with the diesel. There are other pumps out there that are going to work much better. If you are looking for something easy like that Carter makes a replacement pump for them.

don't know where you live... but watch out putting any kind of screen or filter before the pump which might clog when it gets cold. I always take out the little fine screen in the pump so it won't clog when it freezes. The wax crystals will plug it up and stop your flow. not something you want to have happen to your injection pump. Too much $$ invovled there to limit the flow. The filter upstream is more protected and it has a built in fuel heater if your's is like mine in the 03.
I just intalled a Holley blue on my 01, I mounted it on the frame like in the picture cdenny showed , I didnt' run a filter, I did remove the screen and I wired mine up with a relay using the stock fuel pump power wire as a signal wire to the relay. I left the stock pump aswell...

My Holley just failed after 3+ years of service.
My stock LP was still in and running but would not pull fuel through the Holley. I put in a bypass until my Airdog 150 gets here.
now the stock LP is putting out 13 idle and 9wot on PL5.

that's my tranny cooler in the pic too.

No worries but I think this is an opinion. Lots of members have used holley pumps for years w/zero probs. There are different levels of fuel filtration on the CTDs before and after the aftermarket pumps installed which leads me to believe that the quality of fuel being pumped would be the demise of any pump. Trash in, trash out....run enough of it thru the LP and it's going to fail....and if the same trash is being run thru the IP, then it too will fail as the clearances in it are much more stringent. Just my $.02.

I agree with Mike D.
I had a Holley Red on my 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve and that pump lasted me three (3) years also. It was still on the truck when I sold it.
