Re:High Performance VP-44?

Appreciate the replies. I'm about to get kinda crazy with some mods and with a dead pump a higher performance pump would just make sense.

Re:High Performance VP-44?

AFAIK the VP44 has lower flow limits than the P-pump like the 7100. Maybe you should look into a p-pump conversion for your 24V. To fully benefit you'll need twins or triple chargers and quite a bit of electronics change, but some people seem to have great results (read around 800hp on #2 or so) if that's the level of insanity you do desire ;D

Just my 2c

Re:High Performance VP-44?

Matt,
I'm building a set of B1B - B2 Twins now and I have ordered a Snow Boost Cooler(water methanol injection system), DD Cam, Formula1 ported, balanced, and o-ringed head, and probably Mach 6 injectors from Don M.

Meacham.

I have a pump in the wroks, but it will be mid summer before I have anything ready as of now. It is going to be built for higher power and long term durability.

If it were me I would just get a new VP-44. It will support 650HP on fuel and with the METH....oh boy. A drunk truck is a happy truck. 700 plus HP easy.

I will be real interested to see how all that goes, due to the fact that I am looking at working up a similar set of twins, and other work to the block and engine. Not to mention the injectors.

Also would appreciate where you end up in terms of the VP.

Heh. That should be about the time mine should go out from all the abuse. You can plan when the failure will occur, right?

How stout will the modified VP44 pumps be? Support 1000+ HP? Will they be able to use the same injectors or will the injectors need to be 'smaller' since the pump is modified? What's the optimum amount of fuel pressure to run the VP44's at?

I understand if some of these answers are proprietary, but I'd like something to look forward to instead of just a dead VP44.

thanks,
brandon.

Re:High Performance VP-44?

Ya know, ya take something for a fact and then comes Don and simply changes it ;D - like big injectors will only add power way up and smoke under low rpm-low boost.... here comes Don and makes his EDMs- torque all around, controllable smoke and power galore. Let's see what these VP44s will bring ;D

Re:High Performance VP-44?

Don,
I'll wait for your high output pump. I ordered a moderatly upgraded pump from ATS for now but when I need the big fuel Rod will come calling for the new pump. Pretty soon I'm ordering my head. This will be my winter project and by spring when the strip opens I should be ready!!!

Alpine Ram,
I would look into the P7100 conversion but I need the expertise to fully tune that type of pump. I'll have enough time invested in tuning my twin setup. I have thought of the P pump conversion.
Thanks for the replies!

Re:High Performance VP-44?

i asked about HeberRam's modified DD vp-44. he said it went about 40k before it died....and at that time they thought it was electronic. just the sound alone from the modified pump and big injectors on an HO is worth it alone 8)

Re:High Performance VP-44?

OH YEAH 8), HeberRams truck definatly had a "unique" sounding idle when he had that pump.

Not sure if since it died he's just using his original one, or if he's gone back to the DD one.

Re:High Performance VP-44?

Last time I talked to Steve he had Lawrence rebuild his pump and has been running it ever since. He did lose his lopey idle when he switched to a set of Formula 1 EDM's though.
