High Performance Air Intakes

Anybody know what Aftermarket Air Intake for a CTD will give the highest HP and Torque gain. Ive seen lots from the AFE Forced Air Stage I, AEM Brute Force, and K&N. Any thoughts on what you guys have and have noticed the most improvement with.

You will see very little power gain from just an air cleaner system unless your old one is very, very restricted.
The systems will help cool down the incomming air charge by pulling air from cooler places in the engine compartment.
This results in a small difference in a stock motor, but will show a larger difference in Exhaust Gas Temperatures after fueling boxes and injectors are added to the mix.

I wouldn't get the K&N... Diesels suck to much air, I found dust in the turbo on my PSD... Do a search and read away.

Unless you have 300+ hp, stock will work fine for you. BHAF will take you a ways past that...

But then there is the sound

I like my Scotty Air II. Sounds like I have a handi-vac in the glove box.

That's in Hush mode with the radio turned down. Open up the cowl hole, and it sounds like a full-size Shop-Vac.

Scotty 2. The absolute end all of air intakes IMO. Biggest EGT drop, great quality, and Scotty is a heckuva nice guy. Do a search on here for the scotty intake.

I have an AFE kit on my truck, and the filter is red. At first glance I thought it was a K&N. I took it off while changing the oil yesterday and found oil/dirt on the intake of the compressor housing. When I held it up to the light I could see light through (both sides at once). Are the new pro 7 filtes better than the earlier AFE's.

Go with the Scotty II. Its a dual stage foam filter and it is big. I run my truck in the desert sand. I just had my system apart post turbo and it was spotless. Plus it sounds great inside.

98ISURAM,

Shovelhead is right, get an intake or exhaust for what it allows the fueling boxes/programmers to do to make the overall mods perform at their best! While you will get a significant HP bost form either an intake or exhaust their real value is dropping EGT's so that you can use more of the fuel the electronics provide. I only reccomend the AFE Pro Guard 7 systems as they flow the air while they stop the dirt the 4 layer filters let thru. Be sure to make sure you specify PG7 on your price seaches and when you buy (if it's not from us as all we sell is PG7) as lot of sites are acting like you get PG7 when in actuality you get the 4 layer standard media. You woudl be amazed at the number of replacement filters we have sold because of this sales practice. Give us a call if you want we'll be glad to help you.
