high idle ????'s

I did a search on it but still have ?'s. So I can enable this " high idle" on my truck by turning on the cruise control or do I need some thing else to activate it? Will it automaticaly go down when warm? Will the 3 cyl turn on/off by it's self? Does the 3 cyl hurt anything?

No you can't control hi idle with the cruise on VP44 trucks. To enable the high idle and 3 cylinder idle, you will need to have the ECM flashed to a newer software and then the tech has to enable the feature with the DRB scanner.

Or, borrow a smarty from someone close to you. I understand that the smarty flash will take you to the latest version with high idle enabled.

This is one of the features that made me buy the Quadzilla Adrenaline. I can high idle now and any outside or engine temp.

Just put on a manual high idle, cheap and easy to do. Works good in the summer for a/c too. PM me if you want the instructions...

but you will set a P0500 code, i don't think the code will affect performance but you never know

ok so if I get a hold of a smarty will it engauge by it's self or do I activate it, same question for the 3 cyl idle? Will it resume back to normal when at op temp? Does 3 cyl idle hurt anything besides the awesome sound of a ctd idling? If I do the "switch" then I can turn it on when ever I want no matter what the temp is, right? And I don't get the 3 cyl idle with the switch, right?

I wired up a manual high idle on my 2002 and never had any codes from it.

Your butt will hurt because it puckered so hard when you hear the 3 cyl drop for the first time.....and you are not anticipating it

Mine did it for the first time ever tonite. Wasn't quite expecting that to say the least. Definitely builds the heat tho. The pyro was reading around 500 with the high idle and the 3 cyls going.

I wouldn't think it got cold enough in Texas for the 3 cyl drop to occur, let alone the automatic high idle.

I do go out of state durring winter to Ruidoso, NM( my home town) and it can get pretty chilly there. I take it that it does engauge by it's self but does it stop by it's self and does 3 cyl idle hurt anything?

If my trucks been plugged in, the high idle almost never engages. Only once did it kick on and the thermometer was reading -40.

My truck has been sitting outside in a lean to. Temp was under 10 degrees and it wasn't plugged in. I was expecting the high idle but not the 3cyl.

I have never waited long enough to see if the high idle or 3cyl shuts off by itself, I imagine it would. Once you hit the throttle, it disengages and goes back to normal idle.

In the winter my high idle control is an icescraper stuck between the seat and throttle. Then adjust up or down by moving the seat.

It is automatic as soon as it gets below 0C or 32F, works great, the 3 cyl idle i believe comes on at about 10 degrees lower. Works great for those cold mornings, warms up great.

The only issue with this system is it works when the IAT sensor ( Intake Air Temperature) sees 32* or less. Mine was not calibrated the best. It would have to be about 28* before the IAT sensor would think it was 32 and kick in the high idle. Because of this I wirerd up a manual high idle that was discribed in a thread here and it worked better then the factory settings. I could warm the truck up faster and turn it on when ever I wanted.

Mine never even high idled. When I was working nights at a power plant 2 years ago with no plug ins and didn't have the Espar then, it was about -20 to -25. Came out, started the truck, changed my boots, scraped the windsheild, etc. It idled for about 5 minutes or so. I never had any sensor codes with indicating a bad IAT or coolant temp sensor. Oh well, those days are behind me.

I would say your ECM was not flashed to have the high idle or something was not working as it should.

I just use a stick to get high idle. You can find a "high idle" stick at truck stops.
