Consensus seems to be that the 98.5's VP44's are very prone to biting the big one very soon after you add a fueling box.

Since you've got a "new" one, chances are very good you won't be replacing it anytime soon.

Later models weren't prone to failure nearly as much as the early ones.
Even the early ones, after remanufacture, are sometimes better than the newer ones.
(IMHO, a remanufactured is better than a factory original, since whatever is going to break has done broke, and been fixed already, usually with much better parts)

Give it some time to "break in".
Turn it up a little more every now and then.

You'll be at full power in no time.

phox

Just do a P-Pump conversion.

It will take the brains out of fueling! That way, you will have a direct line from your foot to the motor, without a delay like the 44's.. :P Gotta love the dumb pumps!

-Chris-

Re:help me w/ my fear factor..

What phox mulder said. However, every pump appears to be different. Some will tell you that if the VP44 is going to fail it will do so in the first 15 minutes under heavy throttle when fueling box is on. I guess one just rolls the dice and you either win or lose.

I'm in the exact situation, crank it up and let me know. I've even considered leaving the wire off and putting in some bigger injectors to satisfy the power department, and then hook the wire up when I have a spare $2700.00

DRD its gonna probably blow, you can get reman'd ones for $1200....jamie is right, get it over with, you got a 98.5 like me and their the worst pumps...on the other hand, jamie, I JUST PUT ONE IN!!! that's y im a bit scared ( the wife will shoot me if i got to get another one so soon) i have the box turned up to about 35% and all is well....im hoping if it can handle that it can handle even more if necessary...

Yeah, It did/will blow. I've got a reman. installed now. Looks like it was rebuilt in CZ, hopefully they put all the updated parts in it and knew what they were doing.

Re:help me w/ my fear factor..

DRD , put in a "pusher pump" and open the banjo's, thats what i did ( banjo's within a week) and hook up a FP gauge, if it dont run out of fuel SUPPOSEDLY it shouldn't blow...( look who's talking the one posting the "fear" thread, huh!) good luck!!
