Thumbs up Head Studs in!!

Well, DonM-provided head studs are in!! Here's quick photo documentary:

Full box of studs:

The actual stud:

The stud in the hole:

The 5mm allen driver is a MUST. I broke 2 cheap t-handle wrenches on the first stud and had to give up until I ran to Sears.

The completed head stud:

The results? On the test drive, I caught a 944 Porsche (multiple times) running the same combination as when I blew the head gasket last month running stock head bolts. The Porsche driver was friendly and gave me a . I just smiled and waved. The End.

Oh yeah, a HUGE THANK YOU TO DonM!!!

Joe,
From what it looks like, you installed the studs with the head on the engine.

Did you have to tap anything or was this just a one by one replacement?

Brandon, I did mine yesterday also. Royal PIA on the rear ones. Most of mine went in by hand, just used the allen to hold them steady when I put the initial load on them. Are you retorqueing them after a couple heat cycles? Tim

Justin, I've cleaned all those holes twice in 3500 miles now, I didn't think they needed it, so I replaced them one by one. I think the installation oil in the holes from last time made it harder to thread mine in.

Tim, I didn't have a problem with the rear ones except that I got tired of kneeling on the bumper putting them in. I retorqued after about an hour of heat cycles. I plan on retorquing again before muncie & methanol. The retorque is easy since only the valve cover and intake rockers have to come out. Just the retorque took about 45 minutes.

Not quite certain on the boost, I've been running a temporary guage since the ISSPRO's have been out of stock for awhile now. I normally see 62-65 on the street now. I still have a bunch of tuning to finish up but I haven't found a dyno that will hold me around here. I'm going over to a shop on lunch tomorrow to find out if I can run there. The last shop wanted $80/hr but couldn't handle over a 1000 ft/lbs torque. Wussy import dyno.
