Hmm. Isn't the Airtex replacment pump a gerotor style pump? they are powered off of the stock harness and don't cause any hard starting issues. I must be missing some information.

If it's starting fine with the nose down I'm almost certain it's an air leak allowing the fuel to drain back.

may be a leak at the pick up.....i didnt put a hose clams on the push lock fiting on my draw straw and it woud suck air, but never leaked.........
