Getting Ready to Powdercoat!!

Well its been a busy busy summer and I have fianlly just about finished all the welding grind work for my twins piping ... I plan on having my exhaust manifold and two exhaust housings coated as well (its a high temp coating of course). Is there any problem with doing so?? Something I need to do to prepare them?? Any modifications I should do to the exhaust manifold while its off (its stock not ATS or anything...)

Thanks guys look forward to your responses!!
Brian

..it sure would s*ck to pretty up the exhaust manifold, then have it crack later (I'm not sure of the % of failures seen, but mine cracked!)....

The powder coating might hold the heat more, not sure that this would be an issue; Is the temp rating high enough? I would want a 2k deg. F rating just for a margin of safety!

I'd definitely upgrade to an ATS manifold. Put some heat from some serious sticks to that thing and boost too.... she'll crack.

Depending on the powder, powdercoating is usually only good for a continous 400 - 450* so don't bother powder coating the turbine housings. Ceramic coating, nickel plating or chrome plating is a safer bet for these components.

Any good coater or plating service will do all the specialized prep for you unless the parts in question are unusually rough and require heavy grinding and sandblasting.

The powdercoat is good up to 1800 peak and 1400 continuous so we will see. The powdercoater is a buddy of mine so if it blisters, discolors, cracks whatever I'll just blast and recoat with something different... I'm only running a 100 horse stick and going to put down somewhere between 50 and 60 pounds of boost do you really think the ATS will make that much of a difference?? I was told by the place I bought the kit from I would be fine and that most choose not to upgrade when they went twins???? What does one of those cost anyways??

Thanks for your opinions keep 'em coming
