Getting the AFC housing off
Getting the AFC housing off
I was trying to check out the fuel plate to see what, if any, mods the PO had made there. I undid all 4 bolts holding on the AFC housing, moved the fuel shutoff solenoid out of the way, and tried to lift the housing off. The problem I was having was that there was a little bolt looking thing on the front side (side facing the front of the truck) of the AFC housing that was hitting the fuel intake line as I lifted up. If I tried moving the housing back to clear the line, it felt like there was something attached to the underside of the housing that was catching on the pump, preventing me from lifting it out. I tried all kinds of combinations of rotating/lifting etc, but could not get the housing off. Do I need to disconnect the fuel line to get this thing off?
Its tricky, but you dont need to take off the fuel line to get it off. I slide mine as far forward as itwill go where it hits that fuel line, then lift up and wiggle the front of the afc housing and it eventually slides out. What your getting caught on is the afc foot, the part that keeps the govenor arm from hitting the plate until boost comes up.picture an upside down 7 attached to the AFC and that may help you in which way you need to fumble with the thing to get it out.
