Gauge mounting question

I just received my shipment from RPM Outlet today consisting of A-pillar, boost, EGT, and trans temp gauges. First question is this: The A-pillar doesn't have the clips to hold it in place like the stock one, so I'm assuming it's just a cap that fits over the stock pillar, correct? If so, is it supposed to be glued to the stock pillar? I don't see anything else that would hold it in place, but I was hoping that at least I could get it back apart if I ever have to.

Additionally, I have the trans temp gauge listed in the classifieds if anyone is looking for one. RPM Outlet only sells the 3-gauge kit with boost, EGT, and trans temp and I have a 5-speed so I'm ditching the trans temp gauge and going with a fuel pressure gauge to fill the 3rd hole since I need a FP gauge anyway.

My Autometer setup came with plastic pushin clips that you drilled an 1/8 hole through the gauge mount and the pillar and pushed in the plastic pins to hold it together.

I've seen that sort of setup on a single gauge pod a friend of mine bought for his '87 turbo Buick, but mine didn't come with any pins. Anybody know of a type of glue that will hold my A-pillar together securely, but come apart when I need it to? Rubber cement maybe?

Just installed the exact same 3 gauge pillar mount. Push pins, christmas tree plugs, were with mine. Only 4 are needed it's a pretty tight fit on the bottom. I'd run to the parts store and get some. Glue would not hold with the heat and cold cycles. You leave the stock pillar in place and drill through both and then plug the hole. I ran all my wires behind the stock pillar.

good luck.

If your A-pillar mount looks like it will 99% of your stock A-pillar, just remove the stock one altogether and use the guage A-pillar as your cover.

Unfortunately you can't see it my the pic in my gallery but there is a screw at the top of my A-pillar and there is no factory A-pillar cover underneath it.

I did the same thing.
I wanted to save the stocker in case I wanted to put it back.

I replaced the stock one. The bottom fits tight and all you need is one long screw right here in the middle. It's not noticeable.

The install is MUCH easier if you remove the stock A-pillar like these guys have done.

If you plan on leaving the stock pillar under the new one, as I did, and you have the speaker in the stock mount then plan on doing a crapload of dremeling!!!

Yeah, I see no point in putting the triple pod over the stock pillar. Cause if you ever want to get rid of the gauges, you can always put the stock one back on. Can't do that if it has holes in it.

That was my thought exactly until yesterday when I received the A-pillar mount and saw it didn't have the clips like the stock one--I thought I HAD to use the stock one to hold it in place. Never thought of using a screw to hold it there without the stock one behind it. Well, at least I didn't start putting it in yet (gotta get the gray paint for it and the FP gauge first).

Another option is to make some sort of brackets that mount to the frame underneath and then you screw your new a pillar to the brackets.

Or, you could just mount the gauges on your stock A-pillar:
