Gauge install ?'s

1. When installing the pyro in the manifold, is there enough room to just unbolt the turbo from the manifold, or do I have to remove the turbo completely?

2. Where is a good place to tie a fuel pressure gauge in?( I already have the new banjo bolt with the pipe fitting, just dont know where to put it)

3. Is there anywhere I can put the trans temp probe without having to drill the pan? (unused port?)

Thanks in advance for the help!

I just drilled my pyro in place. Went slow greased the drill and fished shavings with a pencil magnet. Some people also drill with the truck running to blow any shaving back out the hole as you drill.

I have a photo in my gallery where I put my fuel pressure banjo bolt on my 3RD Gen.

I tried to unbolt the turbo from the manifold, but the wrench was slipping over. I debated about whether to get a 6-sided wrench (socket wouldnt fit), but then decided just to do it with the turbo on. I greased the tap and used a shop vac to get any shavings from drilling and tapping. Then I just started it to blow what was left out.

1) No need to remove the turbo. Work SLOOOOOWLY. Grease the drill bit heavily (you should have a 5/64ths bit for a 1/8NPT tap). Stop regularly and check your progress. STOP BEFORE THE BIT PENETRATES! Then start up the engine and finish drilling the hole with the engine running. This prevents almost all shavings from getting into the manifold. You can turn off the engine once the hole is drilled though.

When you go to TAP the threads, use a heavily greased tap. As the cuttings accumulate, they will end up in the grooves on the side of the tap. Periodically stop and wipe off the tap with a paper towel or rag, then re-grease it. Finish tapping the threads. Truth be told, I never stopped and wiped off the tap, as the filings all stuck to the grease-- there weren't that many cuttings.

Don't worry too much about getting shavings into the manifold-- getting a couple in there won't hurt anything.

Be VERY careful how deep you tap the threads. You want to make sure that the probe tip rests in the center of the manifuld runner when tightened down. Most people run the tap down too deep, imo.

Bottom line-- there's no need to remove the turbo when installing a pyro.

2) Install your banjo bolt as close to the injection pump as you can. Use it to replace the bb on the pump. If you can't do that, then do the bb that's next closest. Grease gun hoses are a good option for FP gauges, as they have 1/8NPT fittings on the end, and have small orifices which help to dampen pulses.

3) I can't help you much with this one, since I have a stick shift. I think guys are putting them in the governor line? Hope someone else chimes in to help with this one. Do you know how to use the search to find answers??

Thanks for the info guys, I did just as everyone said, drill with grease, and the start the truck. Worked great, still havent hooked the wires up unde the dash though. Where do you pick up the "ignition hot" from?

When I replace the banjo bolt, will I have to prime the motor?
