gauge install ?'s

Just got my gauges today and am wondering if anyone else has done the install w/o pulling the turbo or intake. I am considering the greased drill trick to keep shaving out of the engine because the bolts for the turbo are very rusty and I really don't want to snap them off.

Use the grease on drill bit and grease on tap. Try to get anything else that might have droped in with a small pen magnet. Anything else will just blow out on start up before the turbo spools. You should be fine.

The shavings will be pulled away from the hole you're drilling. That's the nature of the drill bit. So with a little grease, you'le be fine.

Many of us have done it without taking the turbo off. Go right ahead, I did, just fished as many shavings as I could out with a magnet. And the turbo doesn't spool when you start it, so any small bits left just blow right out.

Thats how I did mine also. One other suggestion, pull the turbo inlet hose, so you can see the turbo spin on start up. Most small pieces should pass through without trouble.

The most important info I followed was to just be patient! Drill a little and blowoff/wipe the drill bit and reapply a little more grease. Do that several times just to prevent as much as possible from falling into the exhaust.
Many of us have done it with no problems just take your time.
Also just an important reminder...be sure not to drill in the center of the manifold as there is a divider in the middle. Drill to the back side of center. I assume you've done your homework but a little reminder never hurt anyone...good luck!

Thanks guys, got it done with no problems. All I got out on the magnet was a thin layer of powder, your reponses made it easier to do the deed.
