Ive slid my banks fuel plate full forward. Dont know what grind it is, some think its a 10 or 8. The arm that i assume follows the plate is not touching the plate. Is that okay or should i do an gov. lever adjust?
Main question: Ive read on the forums that full forward is not were the most power is and such and to move the plate back a 1/10th of an inch. My truck dosent smoke much under full power. Yes, when its hitting 2400-2800rpm it lets out a noticeable but faint collum. I hit 32 psi max (have WG) and can hit 1200egt if i try VERY hard. Low boost smoke is noticed as well, but my whole question is that, is the no full forward for someone with heavy fueling and heavy smoke or for all fuel plates including me? Thanks -Jake

 

Much of the reasoning behind aftermarket plates is that you can leave them in the stock position where the governor arm was designed to operate. Full forward is for people who want cheap power with a stock plate and don't really know what they're doing.
Slide the plate back a little and you'll have more useable hp because the egts won't rise as fast.
You may not be hitting high egts now but put a load on it with a hill and you probably will.

If you do not pull up on the fuel shut off and sometimes you have to move the throttle forward it won't toch anything

 

My 96 has Has about 400 Hp. My pump stll has the stock plate . The gov. set at 3800 rpm. The gov.is set to max Rpm per cummins manual. Pump was set up about six years ago, before they even made after market plates & gov. spring kits.

 

I put an aftermarket plate in my 95s in 1995 when they were new.
TST and Banks have had aftermarket plates since '94.

 

You need to slide the plate back some. This is where the max power is. As far as the smoke goes, just adjust your smoke screw if you want more smoke.

 

So it sounds like full forward is not good. How much forward should the plate from the stock position?

 

There isn't really any one size fits all. The stock plate isn't in the same position on every pump, it's adjusted at the factory. Start out with 0.1 back from full forward and watch your egts.
