Fuel Temperature How Hot is Safe?
Fuel Temperature How Hot is Safe?
Today while idling in line at the bank in 100*F heat on 1/4 tank my fuel temp hit 153*F is that too hot? It seems like I remember reading somewhere that cummins has a maximum safe fuel temp for VP-44 powered trucks. Something like 140 or 160, I can't remember, can anyone shed some light on this subject?
You could plumb in a cooler on the return line without too much hassle.
Usually hot fuel indicates that your pumping a lot of fuel. When Scotty (of Scotty air intakes) was testing one pump, that thing recirculated so much fuel that he hit fuel temps over 170+!
Needless to say, he runs a different setup now.

All that I have for a pump is a holley blue running on the stock LP wire with a longer pigtail and mounted on the framerail near the tank. I used a Vulcan relocation kit so it has 1/2" line from the factory pickup draw straw barb on the top of the tank, all the way to the stock fuel filter. From there it is 3/8" line to the IP, and all stock return lines. 16 psi idle, 13-14 psi WOT with Juice set on Super Smoke Six.
