Fuel System

In the next week or so I am planning on building an extra fuel system for the truck and had some questions. So far all I have is an MSD 2225 pump. I was wanting to use the 1/2" draw tube from glacier and run it through the dual filter base from cummins. Does this sound like it will work? Do I need a fuel regulator and some type of return with this pump? It will have a toggle switch in the cab and I am only going to use it for sled pulls and some racing. Also I would like to know what size fitting I would need to tap into the extra plug on the pump? The pump is 3/8" inlet and 5/16" outlet, should I use these sizes or bump up to somethign bigger? Sorry about all the questions, and thanks for all the help.

Go to their website to get the specs - Fleetguard\Cummins and Racor have 30psi max pressure rating on the filter units, so you'll need the pump specs to plan accordingly.

Summit shows 43gph and 85psi, for gasoline - gasoline pumps are not always compatible with Diesel fuel, particularly flow-thru types, where the fuel flows thru the motor - Diesel fuel doesn't mix well with the alloys and compounds used in the brushes and commutator.

Check this out for more info -

That pump is capable of over 90psi, as the Fords use a unit injector system.

Would pressure still be an issue if the filters were mounted before the pump? I was told the MSD pump is the same one used on haisleys aux fuel kit but I dont see it on their site anymore. Does anyone know if they had a regulator on their kit?

May I ask why you're installing an aux lift pump on a '96 12v - the engine mounted diaphragm unit seldom fails - even then it's a simple side-of-the-road replacement.
