fuel issue?

I have a PPE 160gph lift pump and at idle it is set to 15psi. Yesterday it was running louder then normal and my idel psi is now 13. Could a dirty fuel filter cause this? It seem like the pump is working harder with less fuel pressure. If I get into the throttle some it is easy for it to drop to 8-9psi but before I would have to hold the pettle down for a while to get it to 10psi. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Running louder does sound like a filter restriction or something like that. Also may be an air leak into the pump.. Not sure on how these pumps are hooked up, but I would just take a quick boo at all the connections to be sure everything is snug and then pull filters..

ok I changed my fuel filter and it did not help out at all. What to check next? It is still at 13psi at idle and when I drive it gets sucked down to 8-10 psi and when I let off, it slowly builds back up. It use to snap right back to 15psi but now it takes about 3-4 sec before getting to 13psi. Any ideas?

Those pumps don't work well for us. PPE's pump is a private label pump that is made by Essex Industries http://www.essexind.com/

I beta tested the pump over three years ago and the pump did not work with diesel at the time.

thanks for the input I checked out the site and looks like I need to check my strain screen on the pump. I think the pump is still working good it's just working harder from some kind of restriction

When you say it didn't work with diesel what do you mean? Did it just give out or get weak or what

When mine went it was making a louder noise, screen was clean. The pump just died one day on the way home from work. It was a real quite pump up until it got sick. I took the pump apart and the inside of the motor was rusty.

Here's my thread from back in 04 https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ft+pump&page=4

rusty? I would figure that diesel would prevent that being that it is oily
