fuel air lock?

This winter I fueled up at my usual place, well used local truck stop, that adds P.S. to each load of fuel. Took off down the Interstate to work and after 5 miles or so I lost all fuel psi. Kept going to next exit and FP jumped up to normal before I got there and decided to keep going. Happened 4-5 more times this winter, and I kept adding anti-gel, including P.S. 911, Iso-heet and others, thinking it was a gelling issue. Never did really find much out and it kinda just stopped happening. Whatever I figured.

Now today I filled up again at the same place. Got 5 miles down the highway and it happens again? Not gelling today, *66 outside. So I took it easy and kept going to next exit, just as I started to pull off FP jumped back up to normal 18-20 psi. I stopped and shut the truck off, let it sit 10 secs. and fired it back up. Ran fine normal FP.

Am I getting some kinda air lock?? Truck ran fine while this was happening.
This winter I had x-monitor gauge, now I have juice w/attitude. So different gauges. I have needle valve inline before the sender. And I have the Glacier Walbro 392 kit. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Bret

I had the same problem, and it has been plaguing me with uphill starting issues as well. It's called an Overflow valve, it is the VP 44 outlet banjo bolt. Basically it is a steel ball with a spring preset to 15 psi ish before it moves enough to allow fuel to exit the VP. If you get some debris or buildup, it will hold that valve open and allow fuel to sort of bypass the VP and not let your LP build pressure. Instead, it just pushes fuel as fast as it can back out the overflow line to the tank until the valve wiggles back shut. I bought mine for 40 bucks, someone else said their local dealership took $65.

To add to Big Blue24's post I have been experiencing the same symptoms. I read on here that the hard fuel lines from the tank to the rubber lines come loose (mine I could pull apart with no effort at all) 2 simple hose clamps on the fuel line just under the drivers side door on the fuel lines stopped MOST of my problems. I had fluctuating fuel pressure ~16 psi idle and then 9 psi for no reason, a quick WOT run would always return it to normal or cause the problem. I'm researching the overflow valve as we type. Too many people are just saying bad LP and replace. You have a Walbro and yes it could be bad but, it's the same symptoms as us with the stock carter pumps. I'd start with a few .50 cent hose clamps and then look into the overflow valve.

HTH

Thanks guys,
Bill, I had my fuel system apart in feb. to try to find the problem. Richard at Glacier suggested maybe algae was building up. So he said to take it apart and see if the little screen in the inlet of the Walbro was plugged. It wasnt. So I dont think its the lines, as I had a heck of a time getting them apart. I have the slip fit fittings with barbs on them. Sorry I cant remember the proper name for them.

Somebody did mention the vp-44 bypass valve last time this happened. And it stopped acting up before I replaced it. And I forgot about it. So thats the route I think Im gonna take. Though I will give the lines a good inspection first. Thanks guys Bret
