front door speakers

I wanted to get some people's personal experience on what speakers fit...

Shallow 6x9, or forget about it, and use nearly any 6.5"? Mounting depth is the concern, right...

Not really looking for advice on what exact speakers to get... what sounds good to me, might not to you, and vice-versa... I'm more wondering what the available mounting depth is.

Thanks...

I had no problems mounting my 6.5s in the door. I didn't look at 6x9s so I don't have an answer on that. Our doors are pretty deep and there is some room between the door panel. I cut a hole in a piece of abs plastic to mount my speaker into the old speakers location. Good luck.

I don't know what max depth is. I do know that a speaker with 3 1/4" mounting depth will fit.

I also used infinities in the front doors. Mine were the 6.5 inch ones. I used cerwin vegas in my 96 they were 6x9 and they barely fit depth wise in fact the window caught the speaker wires a couple times and yanked the wires off. The cerwin vegas also stuck out a bit too far in the front causing a bulge in the door panel. Which is why I went the 6.5 route this time and the infinities fit no problem. I think if you go to cructhfield.com they have a listing of depths and dimensions for different vehciles, but if you bring up their list of what speakers fit it in those vehicles it is incomplete.

Eclipse # 8392's....6x9's fit ok. Not real expensive but a nice bump up in quality from Stock!

6x9's suck get components. A good driver 6.5" and a good tweete 1" build a plywood mount for the driver and mount the tweeter in the a pillar or door.

And I tend to think that components with the tweeter mounted away from the midbass driver don't sound good.

Not trying to start anything, but that's why I wanted to keep the subjective analyses out of this thread...

I've been intrested to know what would fit too since my amp in my passinger side speaker hasnt worked in years with that dumb infinity sound system. What I'd like to know is besides what fits with a 6x9 is what will fit and sound better then the infinity system and can I still use the tweeters in the a-piller?
