finally its running!
Edited
i took her out for a test drive today after i installed my shiny new $300 clutch master-slave. my $60 overflow valve so i could take the vicegrips off my return line and let it actually run by itself.found a few fuel leaks, but i am not too concerned about that as of right now. i know some of you think i'm probably crazy lettin $2.20 a gallon liquid drip on the ground, but im so happy about this that i don't really care, it has been WAY too long and a whole lot of money on this little project, and by now, who is counting anyways. but she ran beautifully and the h1c-21 spooled up quite nicely. but i am still wondering about my 12cm "non-wastegated" housing. i don't know if it will even fit on my outdated h1c turbo, what do you guys think about making that swap? and i did not get around to tightening my motor mount bolts down... the motor is just kinda resting there. i am actually using old head bolts and they are way too long anyways, but i was wondering if there is a large special looking washer that goes in there or just bolts or what. i got a 0 plate, 215 injectors, gutted afc, and a 175 pump. it blows just a little choke smoke!! lol. the tranny gets stuck in 5th gear for some unknown reason, but it only sticks if you slap it in 5th with the truck sitting still, running or not running. i dunno what the problem is there. and another thing that shes doing that seems funny to me is if you put it in overdrive at around 30-35 mph, and just cruise, the motor seems to surge a little. but it goes away if you give it a little fuel or when you drop it into 4th gear. it has been a while since i visited this site ond since i had enough money to work on my dodge. i even forgot i had a dodge for a couple weeks this winter... i still need an air filter, an alternator, and stacks, but that will come all in good time. i finally got my title transferred and all straightened out and will be swapping insurance off the old ford diesel very soon. i like the old ford, but it sure dont start and run as good as that cummins does!!! i will be hooking my guages up as soon as i get some money to buy the guage pod. does anyone want a brand new 2-guage pod for a 87-97 ford??? i sure dont!!! don't even know why i bought that thing, a ford don't put out enough fuel to even get hot!!
Not the most helpful reply but it bumped it to the top!
Wow, you've been running off the vicegrips that long now?! I haven't seen diesel that cheap in a while....
<- Paragraph break.
Maybe your TPS sensor is starting to act up?
You drove a PHERD?!?

thanks for bumpin me boosted, that was an expensive pair of vicegrips, i should have just bought another pair, would have worked the same and been cheeper in the end. i hope that 12 cm fits, i test drove a 96' dodge for my buddy today and i sure do like the way that hx35-12 spools up at 1200 rpms. it takes a while for mine to get there and i don't think im pushing enough fuel to actually need a bigger housing. i hope i get around to them motor mount bolts soon, but then again, my 1/2 ton chevy with a 454 never did get motor mount bolts.... so i dunno. i will let yall know something as soon as i get around to doing it. i love all that smoke.
yeah, i ran out of money for the dodge project so i just postponed it, she runs like a top, accept for the pop-miss at wot with no load at about 26-2700 rpm. what could that be, i would think it to be timing because it has a slight white haze at idle and white smoke along with the popping at high rpm's. it sounds just like the old ford diesels when the timing gets too slow in the pump. at what number of degrees advanced do you usually see problems at with these trucks?like if i accidentally make it to about 20 degrees btdc, am i in risk of blowing a head gasket or something?? will it not run good at idle and scream at wot?? i don't know, i am still green to the cummins as to the way they act under certain conditions. i know fords like the back of my hand..... i am adjusting the timing by ear and the butt-dyno so i need to know numbers and how they run at those numbers. i will get around to guages soon, i have another question about black smoke, if the truck smokes black before the turbo spools up, does it make the turbo spool quicker than if you were to have it all hooked up like it goes with no black smoke at all??does it matter, or does it actually make you lose a little on spoolup??
Well the white smoke must be close to the single digit timings as the TSB issued for it states;
20 BTDC sounds a little high, but I suppose 94s tend to carry higher timings. I'd think 19 or so myself, but I'm sure there are others who are way above 20 so....
All 1994 Cummins Diesel Engine vehicles equipped with a manual transmission should be set to 12.5 degrees engine timing. All automatic transmission equipped vehicles should be set to the timing specified on the engine data plate. Refer to the engine "Timing-TDC" listed on the Engine Data Plate and compare it to the Pump Lift Setting/Engine timing listed below.

i think i will bump the timing up about 5* from what it is now and see how it runs like that. i don't know what the timing is actually set at right now. i need to know what some of the signs are of advanced too much or retarded too much. i know that i got my timing about 15 or 20* slow one time on my ford and it would just barely start and it got HOT!!! hotter'n firecracker on the 4th of july white smoke!!!!! that ol international is tough!! might not have all the power in the world, but that thing is tough, i have put the ol' thing through hell and she has over 350,000 miles on the original bottom end, heads have been rebuilt once, but thats it.
If it is way to far retarded then it'll have white exhaust and may sound like a loud gasser. On the contrary if it is to far advanced then you'll get black smoke at idle and it'll run hot.
I messed with the timing by ear on my Mercedes, I started it before and it was just billowing out black smoke... moved it most of the way back then I figured I'd go for a more scientific method and just buy the tool!
