Fender Falres to hide Rust

Any advice on using fender flares to hide and protect against rust.

I am looking for flares that don't stick out too much, because I really don't need them. I just need to hide the rust. I was thinking I would repair and glass the rust, then cover with fender flares.

It seems that replacing the fenders is expensive and/or difficult to do.

It's a temporary fix. In a couple of years the rust will spread up beyond where the flares meet the fender.

If I can get aftermarket fenders installed for $1000...

Should I just go with then new fenders?

The rust will soon pass the new flares and you will be back to step one. Save the money for flares and put it toward the new fenders.

From what I've read recently, a good set of flares are anywhere from $180-$350. You could replace both fenders and just about buy the paint for that price.
