fass vs fuel preporator

is there a difference or is it just company names that are different, but same product? also how difficult is it to install a fass system? does it bypass the stock lift pump or just help it out? also does it bypass the stock filter assembly? lookin at a purchase real soon since my stock lift pump and injection pump just recently went out and was replaced.

They are different companies owned by a Father(preporator) and son(FASS). They are basically fueding over money.

Kind of silly destroying a relationship with one of the most important people in your life just for money.

Either system mounts back near the tank and eliminates the entire Dodge fuel system from the tank to the injection pump.

J, what came first, the LP or the vp? Could you describe the sequence of failure? I was unknowingly runnin with 1psi LP pressure for who knows how long and I found out after my motor volonteered for a short block transplant and wouldn't restart. Should I get ready for a hart transplant model vp44? thanks STY

Yup. Probably. The most common symptom seems to be loss/regain of power at random intervals. Also check for a P0216 code in the computer.

When mine went out at about 220,000, I was downshifting for a freeway exit, the engine would not rev to syncronise the shift, coasted to the exit ramp and the engine would only idle from then on.

Who's pump do they use on this system? Seems like alot of money to not know what all goes in it. Fleetguard filters tell me nothing. Who's pump and what are the ratings of the pump?

My pump hasn't gone out yet, 33,000mi. So if I can get let's say 50,000 out of the pump, I can buy 5 pumps for the price of a FASS and have driven 250,000mi before I would have spent the money on replacement Carter pumps that I would have to cover the cost of a FASS. Not to mention most people will get rid of their trucks before 250,000mi so they are lossing money. The best option is to spend the money and relocate the factory pump by the tank.

My fourth stock lift pump started acting up on the way from Virginia to Forest City Diesel in Missouri two weeks ago. I was going out there for a new clutch and injectors. Keith just happened to have two FASS systems in the shop he had ordered and while we had the truck up on the lift, we installed the FASS.

The install was fairly simple I thought. Remove the stock lift pump, lines, and the filter housing. You will need shorter bolts to replace the two that hold the filter housing to the manifold. Drill two holes in a cab mount for the FASS mounting bracket as shown on the instructions and mount the pump. Remove the fuel tank vent rubber hose and put the return tee from the FASS in the hose and reinstall it. Hook up the suction to the original line from the tank and hook up the FASS return line to the Tee you just installed in the vent hose. Run the new fuel hose to the front and hook it up the the injector pump. The only thing that didn't come in the kit was hose clamps for the fuel hose. They just use the push on hose which I didn't like and a Tee for the fuel pressure gauge switch. Took about two hours I would say.

My fuel pressure wouldn't move off 16 even pulling the mountains now. I had enough of that goofy stock pump. The last one I changed out was alongside the road in Lynchburg and it was about 28 degrees outside. Not any more. I would rather be in my truck and not under the hood. I didn't spend $37000 to buy a wrench ride. These filters are good for like 80000 miles too.

Anyone done the install on a short bed 4X4??? My wife's 2k has a nearly new stock lp but I dont trust it as far as I throw it.
I need some ideas of where I can mount this system on her truck...Pictures please if you have them..

when mine went out i was towing my travel trailer and lost all power after coasting into a lower speed zone. when i gave it more throttle, it did nothing at first then i noticed the ce light come on. after dropping it off at the dealer, they replaced the inj pump and lift pump. with only 36000 miles on the truck, i would rather spend the money on fass than have a trip interupted and rely on a Ford superduty to finish out my camping trip.

Me! I have a shortbed 4x4 & FASS. This picture is taken looking up at the front of the driverside leaf pack bolt on the right and the rear driverside cab mount on the left hand side.

Hello everyone, New to the site. new to a 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel and love them both. I dont know if there is a form for certain ? but I'l post one here...
My question is what in the front end has a clunky feeling on the steering wheel and the pedals when you go over a small bump? I used to have a Dakota
that had the same thing but I never found the problem. The dealership I bought the truck at (2500) had done the steering box and other front end work.

WOW...you dug up an old one! haha....Blob...you might get better help in the "24V Engine and Drivetrain" Forum.

BUT i would check the following:

Fnt Brakes, Ball Joints, Sway Bar End Links, Shock Ends, Panhard Bar (Track Bar), The 4 Control Arms (Look at the bushings), U-joints fnt and rear, steering linkage.....just look for excessive play/Ware in any of thoes areas.
