This thread was started in 2005, and since then the situation regarding filter availability and pricing has improved quite a bit. Part of the issue with cost back in 2005 was that the FASS 150 used hydraulic filters which were much more expensive.

These days I buy mine from genosgarage.com.

Haha.. I din't even notice that.

FASS also now has a adapter for the 95/95 or Titanium to run a 1-14 filter and get better than the 10um filtration it had.

The 150 or HD still uses a hydraulic filter.

i have the FASS 95/150 and took the stand pipe off and shortened it up just over a inch and use a Donaldson P566922. i forgot the exact saving, is was half the cost with a similar micron rating

same exact filter, just a little shorter

Which filter did you replace to put that one on? The P566922 is a 25um filter, and the HF6604 is a 3um filter.

The Fleetguard HF 6604 is the one you want. It is in a league of it's own and actually has a 2 micron rating. This is information straight from Cummins. Filtration Solutions also HAD a HF 6604, it wasn't as good as the Fleetguard version. The TDR has PAGES of threads on this subject. Those guys severly over analyze EVERYTHING. They scare me sometimes.

It is also the most expensive, but on a VP-44 truck, one has to cover all the bases. I would run whatever one can afford but I DID buy the Fleetguard hydraulic filter. I love my truck, I can't help it.

i would have to check my notes at work, i did some research on these filters, i couldn't belive the price of them and did some checking round 4 years ago, i bought a couple cases of these so i don't know current price. this shows 9 micron.
yes it is the same thread, gasket and filter as the HF6604, just a little shorter and cheaper back then

the other filter is a P550828, it is basically a screen for keeping the big chunks out of your pump, fuel is pulled through this one, then pumped through the other

That's 9um at 50% efficiency, on a multi-pass filter. The beta 75 number is the real number. The HF6604 is 3um at 98.7% (beta 75).

That's barely a pre-filter, certainly not a filter that will support long life of injectors and the injection pump.

Your pre-filter needs to be swapped for a Baldwin BF1212 or Fleetguard FS1000 if you want to have any f/w separation.

I use the hf 6604 but they are 60- 75 a piece. I couldn't find one this last time but found a 5 mic napa filter for $25. I can get the number if you are interested. It's also a hydraulic filter just like the other hf fleetguard's.

the final filtration is done at the canister filter under the hood.

That's good, because the filters on your FASS aren't enough.

What filter are you using in the OE canister?

Becuase he was using a different filter on his FASS that's doesn't filter enough for final filtration.
