EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
Anyone ever use the EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's?? I'm thinking of ordering one but didn't know if there were any drawbacks to it. Seems like it would make oil changes a lot cleaner and easier.
Re:EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
The only problem I know of is because of the height of the threads going into the pan, the last quart won't drain. If you use the other style quick drain Geno's sells, you can modify it so it drains completely. I have one and it works great. Only problem is you get some steamers that blow around when the oil gets near the end and it is windy. I'll see if I can find the modification diagram for you.
Tim

Can't seem to cut and paste the thread (computer illiterate)
Do a search under quick drain oil change plugs and look at the diagram from big bob

Hoss,
I have one similar to the second one pictured, except mine has a nipple to attach a hose. I like it because the valve locks closed. Haven't seen the other one before. Does it lock closed?
Can't say how great it works yet as it will be about 15K before I have to use it, Amsoil ;D, but I hope the hose will allow me to drain straight into a jug rather than a drain pan. Still need the pan for the filter though. :'(

I've used both, the latter back in 1986 on a Ford Thunderbird; well made but slow to drain. I have the EZ-Drain on my Dodge and really like it; a little machining jewel. It no great shakes on the drain speed either, but faster than the Fumoto. I store the hose in a freezer bag in the glove box between changes, then use that bag to catch the old filter, and place the hose in a new bag. I didn't think it left an entire quart in the pan. I'm going to check the next time I drain, and remove the valve to see just how much.
Re:EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
Hey guys,
I have a ez-drain (made by Femco). It works really slick and I think that it's well worth the money. I am not sure how much oil it leaves in the pan either (but am going to check next change). The only thing to consider is it mounts about and inch and a bit below the oil pan - probably only a problem if you offroad. It would suck to break that fitting off and lose your oil !!

Re:EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
Thanks for all of the info. I'm curious to see how much oil it actually does leave in the pan.

I'm not sure if it locks closed or not. You can read about it at the link above, but it doesn't say if it locks or not.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but from looking at the picture above I can't see how the EZ Drain would be an "inch and a bit" below the oil pan. It looks like it hugs up pretty tight. The second one pictured I could see being lower....but the EZ Drain looks like it's probably not much lower than the OEM plug. Am I wrong??

Just installed my EZ drain and I'm thinkin' that it's a slick piece of work. Well machined and a great concept that's gonna make the oil changes even easier than they already are! ;D

The Fumoto hangs down much further; quite possibly 1".
[/quote]

Is the Fumonto the second one...with the little finger valve?? I'm thinking I need to order the EZ Drain plug and tube from Geno's...along with some filters. Seems like it would make oil changes quick, clean and easy.
Re:EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
The Fumoto valve is the "finger touch" valve, It's actually a little ball valve with a spring loaded "handle" that fits into a detent in the body to prevent accidental actuating. Get the 4-2-1 package. 4 oil, 2 fuel, and 1 air.

Re:EZ Change Drain Plug from Geno's
There is no way that the EZ Change only hangs down 3/8". Its looks to me like its at least 3/4" (sorry I should have looked at it before I guessed an inch and a bit). I still think that it does leave a little more oil than is desired in the pan....I guess that is what the oil filter is for
