EZ/Boost

I got my third EZ back from Edge today and put it on. The response problem is solved and the smoke is now controllable.
I can still only get 22# of boost. My memory is not too good these days, but I seem to think I got closer to 30 # with the first box. I changed the boost elbow and can find no visible leaks in the inter-cooler lines.
What should my boost be with the EZ?

2nd EZ with the boost problem, and I do get 18-20 with the EZ removed. How do you check the wastegate?

Well.. I'm glad its gettng better.. You can take the line off the wastegate actuator, and use a little compressed air to make sure its moving.. but it could still be leaking inside... I sure didn't like the way that turbo looked... did you clean it?? and did it come back??

No, I haven't had a chance to clean it. I'll get some brake cleaner and getter done sometime this week. Can the cleaner be sprayed directly onto the blades and inside housing? How about Berrymans Chemtool spray? I know it will clean almost anything petroleum based, but I don't know if there is something inside the turbo that may get eat up by a strong solvent.
I still think the black stuff in the turbo came from the K&N I had in there for awhile.

Do you have a picture? It could be the turbo impeller shaft seal??

The impeller shaft and blades are tight, with no play at all. The black "stuff" on the blades is dry, not oily. Do you know if the brake or Berrymans cleaner will hurt the shaft seal?

I'll post a picture before and after I clean it.

Gottcha. All I have to use is my heat gun on the low temp setting, but I'll give it a shot.

"pun intended"

With my waste gate clamped on mine and my comp in EZ mode before the injectors I could hit 29-30psi (I hit around 34-36psi with the injectors). I say you've got a boost leak or something. Maybe your gauge is faulty. If it's not working right by the next meeting I'll either swap gauges and see if that's it or swap injectors or something. This bothers me that your not getting what you should be getting. How's the power feel? If your getting around 20 psi without the EZ then that leads me to belive that nothings leaking. The next meeting I can make (it will have to be after august) we'll swap gauges if you haven't figured it out by then.

Thanks for the idea Tyler. I never thought about the guage. I'll check it out today. Since it will pull about 20 without the EZ, I agree that it dosen't sound like a leak.
After I put the new box on yesterday, the power and response is back. If it is the gauge, it's on the top end since I can again feel the EZ kick in at about 10 psi.

Well, I cleaned the turbo blades and around the inlet and can get it up to about 24/25 psi now. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can clean a little deeper into the turbo.
I had the camera with me, but my oldtimers blocked my memory and I forgot to use it.
