Question Extending the Edge Comp wiring harness??

I have an Edge Comp and the wiring harness is to short to mount it to my custom console I am building, so my question is has anybody cut the 8wires that go to the incab controller and extended them??
I've asked Edge if they would make a extented harness for me but they couldn't.

Thanks for any help

I don't see why you couldn't do it. It's just wire, right?

I'd do it. I'd also like a couple of pics of this little console thing your building if you wouldn't mind. I've got mine mounted in the ash tray. No one knows what hit them till it's to late.

I have pics of the console in my gallery, its going to house my CB, scanner, 3 gauges, Edge and 2 cup holders. The Edge will go rite above the middle gauge and under the CB where it will be out of sight! Its been cold up here lately so I have't been able to work on it all winter and my garage is to small my rig doesn't fit in it

...ashtray huh so its a "smokin" ashtray...sorry couldn't resist

I cut the wires on my Van Aaken to get through the fire wall, I just soldered them and H/S tubed em' and no ill effects, if the wire was stainless it may ahve a certain resistance but if you extended it with copper you would not have much of a resistance loss, if it is copper just clip and solder....if it was mine....and I was feelin' lucky

ya they should be copper and adding a foot shouldn't change the resistance that much anyway, its only 10guage wire. well i'll see if i feel lucky this weekend or i'll email Edge and see if i get a real response

I think Edge is just pulling your leg. I don't see why changing the length of the wires would effect the performance of the box. I know a guy that did it and he hasn't had a problem. I'd e-mail them one more time and see if you can get a solid answer. Just my $0.02. Have a good one

I'd suggest making an extension with connectors from Mouser (or your favorite supply house). This way your original harness isn't damaged. I don't have a caliper here at home to measure my extra harness, but I'm pretty sure it's this connector:

well I do have the male & female connectors to make an extention but I don't have the little brass connectors that go inside that connects the wires together so thats why I wanted to extend it by cutting the harness wires.

Oh. Those should be available at your local radio shack for a few $$. If they can't find them, they look like the same connectors that are for batteries on RC cars so maybe the hobby shop would have some.
