I'm currently installing 5" miter cut stacks on my truck. Does anyone make or sell covers or caps for stacks for when you are parked in the rain?

I've heard of some people using a coffee can lid with a string and a weight attached. I've also seen the upsidedown coffee can placed on top. Maybe some used cowboy boots.

All I did was drill an 1/8" hole in the bottom of the pipe at the low point elbow under the stack. Personally I love the look of the miter cuts and didnt want to ruin that look with flappers.

Seldom is an exhaust system such as this totally leak proof and if it is, like the man said, just drill a very small hole in the bottom somewhere and you'll be ok.

 

Thanks guys for all the replies. The stack hat looks great and is probably what I'll order. I think I will also mount a drain in the lowest part of my exhaust, my truck is white but not after a good soot bath. Again thanks for the replies and Happy Holidays!

Good luck with the covers or hats but you're still gonna get the little specs. The price you pay for having those outside pipes. 8)

 

Just don't start it with the windows down or the heat and air blowing.

the warnings about soot reminds me of a story, my cousin works on otr tractors in his shop (body work) he was washing one and his son was helping him, well he didn't know it ,but his son though sticking the hose down the stack was a good thing to do with the woter turned on. any way the ceiling in his shop is painted white metal siding (lucky afterall). after washing he decides to move the tractor and being somewhat of a racer type revs up the engine after starting, you can just imagion the mess it made. the kid is only 9 so didn't really know anybetter at the time( does now after spending about 6 hours with his dad wasshing the ceiling) I laughed for hours and still give him a hard time about it

 

With the correct stack set-up, hats/covers and soot are not issues. Even with a tiny hole in the bottom of your stacks won't entirely stop the water from entering and spewing/rusting.

How does the water drain in the stacks setup you built with the square tubing?

Is there a better way, maybe like a piece of 1/8" tubing at the bottom point of the stack or maybe a small piece of tubing forming a typical plumbing 'trap', much like under the sink?

Just thinking outloud...

Long story short, there is a pipe with-in a pipe, so the water never even gets inside the soot covered pipe, it simply drains out of the bottom of the "other" pipe.
