Exhaust Question...

As part of the upgrade that I'm considering, I'm looking at getting rid of the 55 galllon drum under my truck the dealer is calling the muffler. I would like to replace it with a FLOWMASTER 4", but only have the stock 3.5" exhaust.

Here's what I'd like to do:

Run the stock 3.5 to the inlet, but taper to 4" about 18" before the inlet. After the FLOWMASTER, run 4" to the tailpipe.

I want to do this until I'm over my financial challenges and can completely commit to a 4" exhaust. When I do, I still get to keep the 4" Flowmaster I just bought.

Will this work?

Thanks!

a flowmaster belongs nowhere near a turbocharged engine!!! if you can't see straight through it, you don't want it on your truck!!!

turbos need as little backpressure as possible... flowmasters and other chambered style mufflers are designed to work with the exhaust pulse waves in the exhaust flow... there aren't any pulses in a turbocharged exhaust stream, so the plates and chambers create eddies and turbulence in the current that back up the exhaust...

A muffler of any kind does not belong on a turbcharged diesel... You will love your straight pipe.
