If I took my truck to a muffler shop and had them remove the resonator and muffler and just weld in a piece of straight pipe would I see about the same gain as ordering a $300 4 inch exhaust setup out of a magizine? Thanks for the help!

Without knowing what kinds of other modifications you have done, it could be yes it could be no.

Try to fill out your signature with all the goodies you have and we can better give an opinion..

Right now its stock, and all I really want is to see some smoke. All I plan on doing is filter, timing, injectors and remove the plate.

 

Remove the plate?? If you are going through the trouble of doing injectors and timing, I would spend the bucks on an actual plate to help control the fueling. IMHO...

Up to about 300 Hp the stock pipe diameter is OK, especially if you keep the stock turbo and exhaust housing. The pipe won't be the problem. Of course a 4" would set you up for future plans by the looks of it.

I don't know if I'll have enough to afford a plate right now but when I get some money I'll end up getting one.
