Just got my new 4" exhaust kit from shopdiesel.com and I've got a stupid question:

Before I get into cutting out the old system I want to have all the parts I need. The kit came with all the pipe pieces, muffler and hangers and a set of instructions that looks very complete and detailed. I see the down pipe has a flared flange where it connects to the turbo.

Is there some type of doughnut gasket for this flange?

 

I don't remember a gaket there. I think both the flange and downpipe were flared and meshed together. It's a tight fit on the fender side for the downpipe and thats were you'll need wobble socket/entensions to get around the angle. It helps to have someone hold the downpipe to exhaust flange while you connect them together. Hit the bolts there with PB Blaster before you start.

I used SS band clamps (took 3 at $10 apiece from NAPA) in place of the exhaust clamps. Sure made it easier to remove exhaust later.

 

NO gasket for the downpipe. I second the Stainless band clamps. Especially if you are putting a straight pipe in and want to put a muffler in later etc.
