Exhaust

I am in need of a new Tailpipe and would like to upgrade to a 4" exhaust. With 173000 on it, I would think it needs a new Cat. Is there any aftermarket Cats. available and I am looking for a muffler which is less restrictive and not too loud since I leave for work at 5:00 AM . KDP just killed a couple weeks ago and was sticking out 1/4". I used the tab method. Job is relatively easy. Anyone contemplating doing the job should not delay as it can come out anytime. Mine tappped back in real easy. It was just a matter of time.

Re:Exhaust

I am also looking at the Jegs sys. & this one from summit http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=34429
one thing i'm trying to figure out is, do they come with a down pipe? or are they turbo back? does anyone have any of these systems?
I like the Rip sys. but I'm really looking for the cheapest price right now as my system is falling apart!

DRecu!

Re:Exhaust

The Jegs catalog has a picture of the same system I purchased from a diesel hi-po place and it is complete from the turbo to the tip. It still doesn't hurt to ask the person you are buying from to look at what you are buying and give you a report. Both companies are pretty good about service, in my experience.
Tony

Re:Exhaust

I like the fit and the finish very well and I especcially liked the sound, until my partner thought I was the Trash Man coming down the road! I'm very happy, but I will say that I spent about 6 hours playing with the Sawsall and the tailpipe to get it the way I liked. Well worth the time to me. The sound is slightly louder than stock and much deeper. I have only heard one complaint and I had to consider the source.
Tony

Re:Exhaust

I have to agree with tmiller24. I have the Summit system which appears to be EXACTLY the same as the Jeg's and the same price too. I love it, it fit really well, came with everything from the turbo-back, and it is not too loud. I recommend it 100%.

John

Re:Exhaust

I have the Jardine 4" turbo back system from piers. Its not to bad. Went in fairly smooth though i had to cut 4" of pipe off one of the sections to make it fit right. It really isnt that much louder on my truck either and it has no cat or resonator and the muffler is a 4" straight through magnaflow. Without actually seeing any other brands in person yet I'd probably go with a jardine again if I needed another one.

Rip:

Thanks for the input.

I was told by one of our local exhaust and muffler
shops that they could get a cat for my 96' at much
less than Dodge charges but maybe I misunderstood
him. I will check into it.

-------
John_P

Re:Exhaust

John,

Have you thought about "gutting" the stock cat and then having the 3" end cut off and a 4" pipe welded on. It has to be less than buying a new cat, whether it is factory or aftermarket.

John

Re:Exhaust

John:

I "misworded" my last post. The stock exhaust system
on my 96' is LONG GONE and so is the cat!! ;D
I now have a complete "straight through" 4" DD
exhaust system on my truck. I had the Walker
#21471 Muffler for awhile but am running without
it right now. Sorry about that.........

I was originally trying to let "SCDAYTONA" know that
a couple of the local exhaust shops had told me awhile
back that they could obtain cheaper "aftermarket"
catalytic converters for the stock system. "Rip"
had pointed out he was not aware of an aftermarket
system to go behind the Cummins engine. He may be
right, but I will check with my shop.

Thanks for the input though.

---------
John_P
