Espar Heater remote
Espar Heater remote
Anyone have the remote control to fire their Espar up, Espar site says it can fire it up from up to 300 ft, I have the 7 day timer but of course you have to reset it everyday, were as a remote control would be nice. Just wondering if they work okay.

I'd like to be getting an Espar, but don't like the idea of having a timer as I park in the garage. Has anyone installed a remote?
I was looking on Ebay & some are on sale there, used of course. none show the remote option though.

When I put mine in, the wiring diagrams looked different from the 7 day timer that I got vs. that the remotes work with. Those are the mini timers, I believe.
I think the timer would be more handy than the remote anyway. When I'm working, my heater is usually running before I get up, and I know its running. I don't know what the remote would be like, but if it doesn't tell you its running, I'm not sure I'd trust it.

With my timer, whatever time is set, it comes on at the next available time. So if its 5pm and I set it for 4pm, it comes on at 4pm tomorrow. If I have it at 6pm, it comes on at 6pm today. I thought I had to reset the day too, but then I noticed it advances itself. You may have to reset it if you want it to come on in a couple days, but that would be about it.

hey you guys who have an espar. i am really thinking about getting the D4 for my truck, but most times i have a place to plug in. do you guys have plug-ins available? if so, was it worth the 1500-2000 dollars? and how about the longevity? once and done, or am i gonna have to replace a burnt out (espar) motor in a few years?
At home I can plug in, at work (or most of the places I've worked) there aren't plug ins, so its definitely worth it. Since the pump conversion, if its around the freezing mark, the engine blows lots of white smoke above an idle. Once there is a little bit of heat, it clears up. The espar makes that a non issue (until I forget to set it). I've only had mine for 10 months, so I can't say about the longevity other than its been flawless thus far.
The reason I wanted a remote is so that I dont have to worry about the thing firing up in the garage without the door open. I usually get up about an hr before leaving the house and, in the past with command start gas jobs, just start it up & open the door while I get my morning coffee. I won't use it with the door closed....too dangerous.
On a different note, I have been looking for installation pics/advice for installing an Espar in an 06. I notice that most of ya that have it put it in a different model/year. Maybe if someone has a "how to" install for a newer truck, that they could point me in that direction.
Thanks!
Dr.

You can download the install manual here: http://www.espar.com/html/service/do...technical.html

These heaters are expensive, but they are top quality - they are German engineered and they will last for years and years with very minor maintenance. You can get these things for a lot less that the price you quoted, especially since the dollar is doing so well. Check E-bay or drive down to Great Falls and pick one up. I would seriously look at a Webasto Blue Heat because they are supposed to be even better than an ESPAR.
