engine warm up? how long?
hey guys been driving the diesel again and i can't remeber if it took this long to warm up before, i drive about 12 miles to work everyday, and most of it is 55-65mph with some in town, but it seems to take forever for my truck to warm up, it take until im about 4 miles from work before it reaches its normal operating temps. is that normal? it just seems like it takes to long to warm up, outside temps have been in the high 50s to 60 in the morning, after work it warms up faster, since its warmer out side, what do you guys think, sound normal?? thanks

I'm 10 miles to work...at 45-55 mph. My T-Stat never opens.... needle is still climbing by the time I shut it down. (and I do a 60 sec idle, first start of the day, to refill tranny)! Sounds about the same as you.

A 1 mile commute, lucky, you should just get a mopad, so when your truck breaks from yankin that sled around you can still get to work. Did i read you were going out to the TS event?

Even with the my fan removed and radiator mostly blocked, my truck would just barely start to come off max cold towards the end of my 15-min WY commute.
I don't have it here in Honolulu (thankfully), so I can't tell you what it would do here.

At single digit temps I warmup idle for 20 to 30 minutes. Get in and the needle is barely off the peg. I drive about 2 more miles before it moves at all. By the time Im at work about 4 miles away the needle almost is to 180 but not quite.
Between 20 and 30 degrees with a 1 minute warmup I can usually have the heater blowing decent air by the time I get 4 miles to work
