Engine problems after Headgasket!

Sorry this is going to be pretty long but there is a lot of information that yall need to know.

Last week I swapped out my 160 pump for a 215. Went for a test drive and all was fine until I went to get on it. The timing slipped but when it did it make a very loud boom!!! sound then it was only running on i would say two cylinders. I was maybe 2 blocks away from the house so I limped it home. It had slipped all the way to almost 0 deg. Retimed it and went to drive it and it ran like a bat outta he!! I get home pop the hood and theres coolant all over the motor. What happened was anytime boost got over 10psi It would blow coolant out the overflow bottle. I cant explain why the gasket blew at all after I retimed it I messed up and timed it at 11deg* all I can figure is when the timing slipped and the loud boom noise occured it fluctuated cylinder pressures enough to blow it. But I dont know.

I pulled the head last wensday and gasket was blown out around # 2,3,4,5 and all the material went into the bolt holes. Replaced it and after I put some miles on it went to get into it a little. It had absolutely no bottom end at all with your foot to the floor it seemed like it just bogged down and smoked like a frieght train. It wouldnt accelerate at all and after a while with your foot to the foor it would finally take off like it should. I didnt like it so I parked it at a gas station. Came back later to pick it up and the sound coming out of the motor was the worst rattling Ive ever heard. It sounded like it was the pump slipping timing again Then it did the bogging down thing again. Then it just died. I tried restarting it but it was very hard to turn over so I left it one the side of the highway. I came back the next day with my timing kit. It had slipped a little bit like back to stock from 17 deg* So I set it back and it still was doing the bogging down and then it died not even a mile away. This time I called a wrecker and had it towed to the house. Got back went to start it and it started fine but was running like crap.

My guess was the pump was bad so last night I put my 160 back on and it still bogs down but it doesnt die this time. I think it is because the 215 puts out so much fuel that it actually puts out the fire and kills the motor. Whereas the 160 doesent put out near the same amount.

Also ever since the headgasket was changed it has been white and blue smoking real bad at any rpm any load and at any temp. There is also alot of blowby coming out the breather tube. The motor is pretty rattley at idle but once you put it in gear it sounds like total crap I think the noise is coming from the pump area but it sounds really really bad. And when it is in gear at idle it has a very severe lope to it like a big block with a really big cam. Im pretty sure its not the pump because I swapped them out and it still does it. So what else could it be?

I know this was very long but its my daily driver and I need to get it goin asap. Thanks in advance. Corey

I dont know for sure but seems a compression test might be in order the excess block pressure might be a sign of broken top rings. Theres a chance that You might of blew the rings at the same time that You blew the head gasket.

Ill check all the valves. But Im almost positive that I hydrolaulic the motor because of when it died it was very hard to turn over. And then later on after the fuel drained past the rings it would start easily. Also there is a good bit of fuel in the oil. Were guessin I also bent the rods which is why it sounds so bad. So does anybody know what all rebuild kits are available and where I could get one?

Just make sure you run a compression test before you drive in without knowing at least which cylinder.. or cylinders to look at..
You have had the run around with that thing.. You'll know that truck from one end to the other...
Good Luck..

The turbo is fine because on the highway with as much fuel as I was pushing it would easily spool to 20 lbs with very light throttle pressure. Im going to order the compression tester adapter from the snap on guy today.

If you can get it for 50.. get it... Looking at the Snap On web site... its about 69 for the adapter... if you already have the gauge... (189) for the gauge... Which isn't really that bad... I have an OTC tester.. but don't have the cummins adapter... It would be nice to buy a set..
