Has anyone replaced the stock engine driven fan & put electric in? if so what have you used & did you get more power & better fuel milage??

My old boss delivers cylinder gas and welding supplies in I think it's a 96' and says it has a fan switch in the cab that he pretty much only uses in town. I don't know if it goes to an electric fan or clutch? Says he gets about 1MPG more than before. There must be more power too, I assume?

The Horton Fan is the only way to go. I tried two perma-cool fans and they did not do the job.

I'd like to find out more on this topic. What I'd really like to know, is if the fans will actually give you better fuel economy. I think that’s an issue that all of us are going to be dealing w/in the near future. I don’t think that prices are going get any cheaper . So if anyone has put the fans in and seen any good come from it let us know. 8)Steve 8)

I was going to do this, till I saw the price of the Horton. $600!!!!! From what I have gathered, there is a nice SOTP increase and power and about 1 mpg or so better. Don't know if it's worth the money though.

 

BB there are way cheaper setups you can have the fan really is not that big it's mostly the shroud.

 

I'm sure there are. I was just stating the price of the Horton since that was the one most people are talking about and that was the one that I looked at.

 

Several threads on this subject have appeared on the other site.

Each time the conclusion was there were no electric fans on the market that are up to the task of moving enough air to keep the Cummins cool. Especially when towing.

I was looking into this recently through some manufacturers listed in the Summit magazine. The manufacturer advised to only use their fans to supplement the factory fan for heavy engine/towing applications.
