i think what ever the mod to gain more power will result in lower mpg while you are enjoying the new power.when the novelty wears off, thats when you may gain some mpg.i also think the mpgs on these trucks is directly related to how its driven, wot off the line and screaming down the hiway at 2400rpm will reult in low numbers.if driven with an egg under the pedal they do pretty well.i didnt notice any mpg with the injectors only but with the comp on low with the subsetting on very low,i idid notice a better mpg and of course driving with the egg under the pedal.everyone is diferent but i have heard many say rv 275s and an ez will get you a nice setup for mpg.

Hohn,

Thanks for finding that document for me. As you can see, I am not very good with names. My apologies to Mr. Jannetty.

I definitely don't want to misquote somebody, but I don't think I was as far off as I thought when I mentioned what Ted Jannetty's article said.

He does specifically say, "We do not like to push more fuel through a small injector because it retards timing, puts undue stress on the injection pump, and limits performance. The bigger injectors will allow more fuel flow delivered in shorter duration, effectively advancing timing, cleaner combustion, less stress on the injector pump, and usually better fuel economy."

Twice he mentions added stress on the injection pump from increasing fuel flow through the small injectors. So, I was not mistaken when I said that Mr. Jannetty did not recommend adding fuel through stock injectors because of the extra stress on your VP44. And by the way, this document was written specifically about 98.5 to 2002 24 valve ISB engines. He states that in his first paragraph.

Now, I am not claiming any specific expertise here. I learn more on this forum than I pass on. But, I do like to share what I have learned here and from other sources such as Mr. Jannetty, and I try to do so accurately. I do believe that Mr. Jannetty has the proven track record to be considered an expert in the subject.

So take all this with a grain of salt. Better yet, I would recommend reading Mr. Jannetty's document so you get the information first hand in its intended context. I just think his suggestions and opinion have a lot of merit and I wanted to share them with those who had not seen them before.

I agree that driving habits are the number one factor in mpg.

The one thing that convinced me that the EZ did not help my mileage was my highway mileage on trips where my speed was sustained. I lost approx 1 mpg on the highway with the cruise control set at 75 if I had the EZ on setting 3. When I changed the EZ to setting 2 so that the full fueling increase did not kick in at low boost levels, I gained almost all of that back. I tested this more than once on identical trips back and forth to WY, and it was caclulated by hand at the pump.

I never have regained my full stock mpg with the EZ installed, but I have not tried setting #1.

RV275 injectors can be found numerous places for around $300. Most all of the diesel performance shops carry them. I have seen them as low as $250 on eBay. Those are a nice injector that are said to offer a 30 to 40 HP increase, depending on the vehicle.

If you want bigger injectors than that, the price is proportionate to the size of the injector. The more power you want, the more they cost. Some go as high as $1,000 for Diesel Dynamics Megamentals.
