Edge EZ and Auto Transmission

Anyone out there running an Edge EZ box without any automatic transmission mods? Would like to get a little more power for pulling the 5ver. Not sure how well the stock tranny will do. Thanks

Re:Edge EZ and Auto Transmission

Mine's fine right now with about 20k miles since the EZ. 40k+ total on 2001.5 4x4 auto with 3.54's. I did notice the TC slip one time with a small utility trailer headed to the dump (maybe 1.5K lbs). At about 60mph in o.d. it slipped. I backed out of the throttle and it hasn't done it since. My camper weighs in about 8k lbs and I haven't had any problems yet.

I have about the same truck as you with an EZ. I put it on about a year and a half ago and loved the results. I usually tow about 400-500 miles a month. In February of this year I took a trip to CA with a 10K 5th wheel and TC started slipping just as I got there (1500 miles one way). It got worse as we drove home, and now messes up even when not towing.

I sent DTT my deposit last week for a new TC, VB, and update kit. I'll post how well this set-up works when I get a chance to tow with it.

I am very dissapointed in the Dodge tranny.

Re:Edge EZ and Auto Transmission

The Dodge tranny is actually pretty well designed for the output of a stock Cummins. And even with a bombed engine, it will continue for perform for some time without slipping. My truck ran fine for over 100,000 miles, most of that bombed and sometimes towing a 5th wheel TT. However, with higher HP and heavier loads mine began to slip at about 105,000 miles. It got to where I could pretty much slip it at will. I bit the bullet and got the ATS. Fixed the problem real good!

I ran the Edge Comp (w/out the pump wire) for about 6 months w/out any issues. You should be alright for a little while. But once you get the EZ, you'll want more. ;D
