edge ez

hi all,
i would like to add an ez to my 99 3500, but it seems that alot of people who use mild power gain boxes like them, and then later down the road i seem to read about their injection pumps going out. can the v44 hold up to changes the ez puts on it? i would hate to put the box on at the expence of a $1500 dollar pump. btw, i've got 85000 miles on the original pump now with no problems yet. thanks for any help on this.
dave. The EZ is considered a "Minor" box.
Your VP should have no troubles accepting the mostly timing inputs for thousands of miles.
It's the "Major" boxes like the Comp that pierce the pump wire for enhanced fueling and sometimes toast the VPs.

Ed

It is on my shop floor with all gears operating well. And that is with the heavy weight I pull. Just ordered the EZ and RV's at 208,000. So it's not all doom and gloom if you drive it right. Guess I finally caught the bombing bug :

Re:edge ez

I bought one used and have a couple thousand miles on it. I really like the increased power on the bottom end. Makes big difference starting from stop with trailer in tow. CB

My reason for ordering it is the capacity to stay in OD at freeway speeds without shifting. This will also be a big advantage for him. I run 70 @ 2100 and don't like to go below 1900 in OD before shifting so hills force a shift more often than I like.

Re:edge ez

I bought one, I tried it out with a short trip towing my 5th wheel, power was great ;D ;D Clutch was sad, > > it slipped when in high torque range (1600-1800 rpm) Took it off as soon as I got home, now trying to decide whether to sell the EZ or get a new clutch. Anyone know how much a new South Bend clutch would cost installed? ???

Re:edge ez

Just curious, why would you be pulling at 1600?

Re:edge ez

I try to never lug below 1800 and usually shift at 1900. You will notice that the power drops quite a bit at 1800 and I know that the stress on the trans and driveline is much greater below 1800.

The six speed and flywheel was just a basic bolt up with a couple of changes. The front shaft lengthened six inches the rear shaft shortened six inches. The rod for the transfer case was lengthened six inches. Only other problem that I had was the rear mount did not bolt up. Made a plate about six inches square with four holes for the transfer case and two for the mount, worked great and only took 45 minutes or so the make up. I was real satisfied with the change and the conversion. I used a SBC clutch and redrilled flywheel.

I just purchased a 2000 flatbed 5.9 with the RE47 w/ 3.5 something gears, stock except for a AirDog 100filter system and pump w/ 90K miles. I had a Edge on my 05 and it worked good. I'm considering the EZ for fuel milage only but I don't plan on driving long distances but I do tow a heavy gooseneck pulling tractors and my backhoe between my three places. It could use some help starting rolling and I have the same overdrive issue wanting to shift down on hills when it goes to town. My 05 had the HO engine and it would glue you to the seat, the 2000 has 235 hp w/ +/- 400 lbs/tq. They are not hot rods but im hoping it will be a long lasting truck for my farm use. I'll say this about the 3500 standard cab with the corn crushing sound of the cummins, I love it! I have a newer 08 and I've had nothing but trouble, lift pump, DPF filter, about 12 computer uploads and each time after a software change my milage would drop. I had to take it back the dealer on time and it was going into re-gen every 1000 miles so I was getting about 14 mpg. I'm so happy I purchased the 100K bumper to bumper but I'm sure Dodge is throwing up everytime I pull in.

GOOD LUCK
