Edge Comp. Vs. Powermax 3

I HAVE AN EDGE COMP AND WAS THINKING OF TRADING IT FOR A POWERMAX 3 BECAUSE IT HAS LESS TIMING BUT I WAS WONDERING HOW IT WORKED COMPARED TO THE COMP. I KNOW IT HAS 9 POWER LEVELS BUT DOESE IT HAVE SUBLEVELS TO CHANGE RESPONSIVENESS LIKE THE COMP AND WHEN DOES POWER START TO COME ON IN EACH LEVEL ,AND HOW IS IT ADJUSTED IN THE CAB OR OUTSIDE.

I haven't used a Comp, but I can tell you about the PM3. It fuels HARD! It causes significant shudder in the engine ig you have it turned up and let out of it without winding the engine way up. I don't know that the shudder actually causes any damage, but it gives you a weird feeling when it's shuddering. If you run the RPM up, such as in drag racing, then the shudder never happens.

TimInVa had a PM3 but switched to the Edge Comp because of the shudder. I haven't heard him complain about the Comp yet.

The box goes someplace under the dash, and is not really something that needs to be mounted in sight because all it contains is the on/off switch. The remote does the power setting, and comes on a long cord so you can mount it wherever, using velcro. Power levels are 0-9, with 0 being equivalent to the PM3 being off.

I love my PM 3. I've never used a Edge so I can't say about the difference. The PM3 does come on hard but I don't have the shutter problem very much. I mounted my box under the dash out of site and velcroed the remote on the dash.

The regular pm3 will not shudder as bad as the Powermax Competition.
If I was you I would keep my edge comp or upgrade to a drag comp.

I have a Van Aaken box that is about 6 years old. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Edge. Where can I get one and get more info? I'm going to upgrade the TC and VB first.

Stamey's comments refer to the PM3 Comp model which will shudder at higher settings. PM3 (non-comp) has no problems that I've heard of. You will notice less responsiveness at lower RPM's due to no timing advance. There are no responsiveness sub level settings. Each of 9 setting is 15 hp more than previous.

Setting 9 on PM3 is equal to setting 5 on PM3 Comp. Either of these boxes will give you more fueling than any other box on the market, IMO, responding particularly well to lots of boost. It will take some getting use to the lack of timing (lack of responsiveness) at low end...you probably won't like it at first, coming from an Edge Comp.

I went to a PM3 from an EZ to avoid extreme timing. Later stacked my EZ onto the PM3 for more responsiveness, after doing lots of homework and hearing no negative comments or problems with stacking. Been told Edge Comp, and the Drag Comp, have same timing as the EZ; anyone know for sure??

For explaination of the PM3 Comp Shudder, read this... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...r+and+PM3+Comp

I have an edge comp and love it. Really big difference in the seat of the pants-meter. I don't know anyone w/ a powermax, but I guess it just depends on personal preference. Also, I hope you an upgraded fuel system, clutch, or tc for either or.

Yay! I get to repeat myself again.

"I can honestly say there's very little difference in just a drag comp VS. the tst pm3 comp stacked over the drag comp in EZ mode -- I drove both of them (back to back) last month on my truck. With the 2 boxes stacked, the truck smoked a little more down low. However, the top end power was too close to the same to feel the difference between the two setups. Power comes on a little sooner with the tst box, but the same power is available with the drag comp. The tst box is HARSH and bucking is an everyday occurance. Not so with the Edge.

The biggest difference? Being lazy, the buttons on the drag comp are much easier to press and respond immediately. (pesky ricers beware.)

Edge 1, TST 0

I swiched from the tst comp to the edge drag comp and the tst has more bottom end power with more heat issues. With edge box i think it lacks bottom end power but with less heat and just as much top end performance.
