I'm going to order my edge comp box tomorrow. My truck has 112,000 miles on it. I don't have guages yet either only one thing at a time. Should I expect any problems after installing the box? What should I expect out of the VP 44 any problems or pierce and pray? Its going to be about a month before I can get the guages any suggestion on running the box without guages?

if it's going to take a month to get gauges, calculate the years it will take to buy a new engine.

you can run the comp just dont tow with it . ,your VP will die only if its already sick , Its a good idea to at least get a FP gauge. But then again if the pump is weak ? its gone anyways . these guys are pretty **** about there gauges. If your running around red light to red light you wont use the gauges anyways.

 

Ok I'll listen, Kinda, I ordered my guages today only ordered a pyro and boost guage. I also ordered the edge comp box. Correct me if I'm wrong but if the VP is going to go its going to go weather I have a guage or not. Not that I look forward to it going out. Mark at Diesel Performace Parts hooked me up with the best deal I could find. If anyone has any comments or suggestion lets here them everything should be in tomorrow and ready for hookup soon. Not to start a huge rock throwing match but what is everyone's thoughs on removing or leaving the turbo during installation? thanks Why should I not tow with the Edge Comp?

 

With your truck being a 2002, you should be looking at installing a Fuel Pressure guage. The lift (transfer) pumps are what gives up the ghost on the 24v trucks. If you only want 2 guages, get the pyro and fp guage, imo.

You can tow with it if you got a pyrometer. Temps will get hot on the higher settings even empty. You need the pyrometer to know when to back out of it. Tim

 

Why risk your investment??? Buy all of the gauges!!

 

I am confused on the broad statement that the guys here are {**** ?} if they believe that gauges are needed first or added at the same time in an addition to changing the fueling which changes the temps that can melt the pistons, Everyone is entitled to thier opinions but to make such a claim that all that believe different from you are ****?? I can run from red light to red light and nail 1400 on the pyro if I want, and before the Holley install hit 0 psi on fuel.

Good advice. FP and pyro are MUSTS. Boost is also nice, but not as important as pyro.

Since you have an '02, the pump should survive the Comp. Most of the VP failures from wire tapping were on the early 24V trucks ('98-'99)

Kandgo , just joking of coarse the gauges are important . I laugh when i hear (Get some Gauges) my advice for Comp installers is ( Watch the road not the gauges)

 

Does anyone know if the Edge Comp box for an 01' would work on an 02'? The reason I ask is I have heard that the box through out the years is the same, but the connectors are different for each one.
